Steve Leung Design Group Revives Kai Tak Memories at Hong Kong’s Landmark Kai Tak Sports Park

by creativehomex

With the grand opening of the Kai Tak Sports Park, Steve Leung Hospitality (SLH), under the renowned Steve Leung Design Group (SLD), has unveiled its visionary design for the bites and brews areas within the stadium. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Kai Tak Airport, the design adopts a “Dialogue in Space and Time” concept, blending aviation heritage with contemporary spatial narratives to honour Hong Kong’s legacy.

Spanning the second to fifth floors of the 50,000-seat stadium, the project includes 33 food and beverage zones—five of which are expansive sports bars—crafted to reflect the spirit of athletic achievement and the historical significance of Kai Tak. A palette inspired by gold, silver, and bronze medals enriches each space with layered symbolism and cultural memory.

The highlight, “The Champion” sports bar on the second floor, uses a gold-toned scheme to evoke victory and nostalgia. It features a 46-metre bar—one of Asia’s longest—and Morse code lighting fixtures representing the airport’s exact coordinates. On the fifth floor, the “Muse Bar” and “Sports Bar” recall airport arrival halls, with conveyor belt-inspired aluminium ceilings and silver themes symbolising the journey home.

On the third floor, the “Loong” and “White Tiger” bars reimagine runway indicators with LED-lit ceilings and bronze hues, offering panoramic views of Victoria Harbour. Meanwhile, interactive food counters styled after check-in areas bring aviation charm into the dining experience, enhanced by metallic finishes and vibrant lighting.
