With humble beginnings as an unassuming terrace house in Medan Damansara, this beautiful home has been transformed into a warm sanctuary that artfully marries the Wabi-Sabi philosophy with contemporary design. Thanks to Interiorscapes keen attention to detail, this abode exudes a lived-in charm, celebrating imperfection, natural materials, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.
“First task on hand was to be smart and play around with the limited entry of sunlight into the space. Not only that, the client has also indicated for us to keep things cozy, comfortable and warm, making the house looks “lived in”, instead of too new and fresh,” the design team shares.
What is not immediately apparent is the home wasn’t easy to revamp as there is limited natural light permeating the space. This constraint, however, became a defining aspect of the design process. The design team opened up the rear of the house, particularly around the wet kitchen, to invite sunlight deeper into the interior. This strategic adjustment allowed the home to embrace the natural rhythm of light and shadow, enhancing its cosy and welcoming atmosphere.
Central to the transformation was the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic, which emphasises asymmetry, intimacy, and simplicity. Interioscapes infused this philosophy throughout, ensuring the home retained an organic and authentic feel. Natural materials—stone, wood, and raw finishes—were complemented by the homeowner’s thoughtful selection of furniture and houseplants.
The ultimate success of this Medan Damansara terrace lies in its ability to feel both intentional and effortlessly lived-in. The balance between curated design and the client’s personal touches—houseplants, heirloom pieces, and natural decor—imbues the home with a sense of life and authenticity.
