Lego for Grown-ups: TUPAI’s Modular Sofa Lets Space Evolve Freely

by creativehomex

The TUPAI modular system is more than a sofa, it’s a language of space. Designed for an era of flexible living, TUPAI allows endless configurations, inviting users to compose, extend, and reshape their environments with architectural precision and playful creativity.

Inspired by the concept of volumetric composition in architecture, TUPAI deconstructs the sofa into a series of modules including backrests, seats, corners, curved and armless units that can be freely assembled into linear, circular, or S-shaped layouts. The result is a piece that evolves with the needs of each setting, whether a lounge, co-working hub, or waiting area.

Visually, TUPAI rejects sharp minimalism in favor of soft, geometric forms that create a sense of comfort and security. Textured upholstery and colorful stitching details add tactile richness and graphic tension, while the gently curved backrest provides ergonomic support for diverse postures and body types.

TUPAI’s adaptability extends beyond form: power outlets and side tables can be integrated into the modules, enabling light work and social interaction. In open-plan offices or shared spaces, it becomes a “functional island” a place for collaboration, rest, and inspiration.

Created by Italian designer Francesco Favaretto, TUPAI embodies his imaginative approach to modularity and cross-disciplinary design. Since 2009, Favaretto has received nearly 40 international design awards, including the Red Dot, Good Design Award, and German Design Award.

With TUPAI, space is no longer fixed, it grows, connects, and transforms, just like the people who inhabit it.
