Herman Miller and Stine Aas Debut Land Collection, Where Function Meets Family Story

by creativehomex

Herman Miller has partnered with Norwegian designer Stine Aas to launch the Land Collection, a trio of heirloom-quality pieces: dining table, sideboard, and console designed to anchor family gatherings and forge emotional connections. Drawing on the rugged landscapes around Aas’s Bergen studio, the collection combines time-honored joinery, robust solid-wood construction, and approachable silhouettes, underscoring Herman Miller’s commitment to enduring craftsmanship and sustainability.

The Land Collection’s three core pieces: an expansive dining table, a versatile sideboard (with optional wine module), and a slender console are conceived as platforms for daily rituals. Aas explains:

“While we can’t design emotion, we can create objects that invite people to imbue them with personal stories. Land is meant to be at the heart of family life, carrying the weight of collective memory.”

Each piece employs mortise-and-tenon joinery and a three-leg support structure, ensuring structural integrity over decades. Available in white-oiled or smoked-oiled North American oak, the large-scale tabletops and clean architectural forms blend seamlessly into living, dining, and entryway contexts.

Dining Table: Offered in 75 in (190.5 cm), 99 in (251.5 cm), and 126 in (320 cm) lengths, accommodating everything from intimate dinners to multi-generation feasts.

Sideboard: Two widths—66 in (168 cm) and 85 in (216 cm)—with optional inset wine storage, doubling as a display cabinet or buffet.

Console: A 48 in (122 cm)-wide profile, its slender depth ideal for hallways and entrées.

In line with Herman Miller’s eco-principles, all oak is sustainably harvested within 350 miles of the company’s manufacturing facilities minimizing transport emissions and waste. The durable design and timeless aesthetic extend product life cycles, embodying a philosophy of “quality over quantity.”

Aas further emphasizes the collection’s “honesty” in material, construction, and intuitive use:

“Land’s details its reveal edges, gentle chamfers, and tactile wood grain should speak for themselves, guiding a natural, unforced interaction.”

As part of MillerKnoll, Herman Miller continues to collaborate with leading designers to shape environments that honor both human needs and the planet’s resources. The Land Collection exemplifies this enduring ethos: furniture as the foundation for shared life chapters.
