Wild at Home: IKEA’s New Kids’ Collection Turns Playtime into a Safari Adventure

by creativehomex

IKEA has launched a new children’s collection, SANDLÖPARE, inspired by the vast landscapes and wildlife of the African savanna. Featuring 29 playful designs, the collection aims to bring the spirit of the wild into children’s everyday spaces — from zebra stools and snake-shaped rugs to lifelike plush toys of meerkats, cheetahs, and giraffes.

Developed in collaboration with Sweden’s Nordens Ark Wildlife Conservation Centre, the series celebrates biodiversity while encouraging children to care for nature and endangered species. Each design reflects realistic animal characteristics through thoughtful illustration and form, spotlighting lesser-known creatures like the pancake tortoise and slender-snouted crocodile.

Sustainability and safety remain at the heart of the collection. Nearly all plush toys are made from 100% recycled materials and undergo extensive durability and chemical-safety testing. Since 1997, IKEA has replaced plastic eyes with embroidered ones to enhance safety while giving every toy a more expressive personality.

According to IKEA’s 2024 Play Report, over half of children are satisfied with their playtime, yet 54% of parents wish they could spend more time playing with their kids. Continuing IKEA’s long-standing tradition of designing from nature and encouraging family play, the SANDLÖPARE range invites families to build imaginative, story-driven play environments at home.

Now available across mainland China, IKEA has also launched donation initiatives with local non-profit partners to support wildlife conservation and environmental protection in conjunction with the release.
