Paris’ M&O Exhibition Debuts in Hong Kong, Leading the Trend of Asian Design

by creativehomex

Starting this year, Maison&Objet (M&O) will collaborate with Hong Kong’s top designers to curate the first Design Week event.

Hong Kong is striving to establish itself as Asia’s design hub. To achieve this vision, the Hong Kong government has entered a long-term partnership with Maison&Objet (M&O). From this year onwards, M&O will work alongside Hong Kong’s leading designers to launch the inaugural Design Week event. This initiative will align with the highly anticipated Business of Design Week (BODW), the DesignInspire exhibition hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and 60 design and creative spaces across the city.

The Maison&Objet Design Factory exhibition will take place from December 5 to 7, 2024, featuring 120 brands and 15 renowned designers showcasing their expertise and works in sustainable design. This is not just a design extravaganza but also a collective display of Hong Kong’s design prowess, reflecting its ambition to drive Asian design innovation.

Award-winning designers of the Prix pour l’Intelligence de la Main® and notable French design figures like Uchronia, Normal Studio, Le French Design, Materi’o, and Elizabeth Leriche will travel to Hong Kong this December at the invitation of CCIDA (Culture and Creative Industries Development Agency). Over the years, CCIDA has been dedicated to transforming Hong Kong into Asia’s design capital and a metropolis connecting Asian and Western arts and culture. This plan aligns with Hong Kong’s broader contemporary art strategy, as seen in events like Art Basel Hong Kong.

As a leader in the design industry, France and M&O represent the highest standards of creativity and innovation.

The Maison&Objet Design Factory exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, spanning a 1,000-square-meter space. This inaugural event will center on sustainable development, an area where the French design ecosystem is globally recognized as a pioneer. The upcoming exhibition will be divided into five zones, showcasing diverse and inspiring innovations in materials, concepts, and creations.

“Hong Kong Design on Stage” is an exceptional exhibition co-presented by Maison&Objet and the Alliance Française de Hong Kong. It will be held in conjunction with the DesignInspire event, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). This exhibition will feature a dedicated pavilion showcasing works by 10 outstanding Hong Kong designers. The goal is to foster dynamic exchanges among international brands, designers, and enthusiasts, promoting a more sustainable and enriched urban lifestyle.

Five Sustainable Art Installations

1. Muse Nature

Curated by artist and designer Jiang Qiong’er, this section kicks off the exhibition by showcasing a cultural dialogue between 10 French artisans and 10 Chinese craftsmen. Combining traditional Chinese creativity with modern design, Jiang offers a cross-cultural aesthetic experience.

2. Normal Studio Design Space

The spotlight then shifts to Normal Studio’s sustainable residential model. All components are made from recycled or natural materials, demonstrating eco-friendly living solutions.

3. the Matéri’o Space

This area highlights a database established by Quentin Hirsinger, featuring over 9,000 innovative materials, providing an expansive selection for design professionals.

4. Studio Uchronia Design Space

This zone displays 13 masterpieces curated by Le French Design, emphasizing innovative processes and a deep understanding of sustainability.

5. Terra Cosmos

Designed by Elizabeth Leriche, the immersive “Terra Cosmos” exhibition serves as the finale. Inspired by the interplay between earth and sky, it features unique color palettes and sustainable yet innovative designs, set under moonlight or sunlight.

These installations not only showcase diverse and inspiring solutions in materials, concepts, and creations but also reinforce the French design ecosystem’s leadership in sustainability.
