Luxury comes in many forms and it can be interpreted in a myriad of ways according to different lifestyles. This is precisely the creative direction that leading interior design firm, Metrics Global has taken when it comes to designing One Stonor’s Sales Gallery located in Kuala Lumpur.
A luxury condominium development by renowned developer, Mayland Group, One Stonor comprises 285 units with built-up between 677 and 1200 square feet crafted exclusively for young professionals, singles, double income earners and newlyweds.
Offering potential buyers an immersive experience of the property, the 8,000 sqft One Stonor Sales Gallery at Platinum Park, on the 17th floor of TH Tower, features three show homes representing different lifestyles.
“Strategically located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, the gallery is bound to be a welcoming experience for buyers who are seeking a metropolitan lifestyle” says the design team from Metrics Global. “As a reflection of the city, we went for a highly metropolitan concept for the interior design.”
Spread across the show gallery are an elegant reception area and a sales space, as well as 3 different show homes representing the 1-bedroom unit, 2-bedrooms unit and 3-bedrooms unit. “Each one of them provides its own unique viewing experience,” say the designers. “We created different lifestyle scenarios within each show unit to capture a wide range of audience.”
From the reception area, visitors are ushered into the sales space which accommodates a presentation hall where visitors are presented with an introduction of One Stonor via a digital screen. To ensure they have privacy while viewing the presentation, the designers incorporated a carefully designed curved divider, screened with copper and black features. Adjacent to the presentation hall, a scale model of the development set upon an artistic pedestal enveloped by ascending layers of copper strips anchors the space, giving visitors a more thorough understanding of One Stonor.
“With a presentation space that offers guests a clear view of the actual development, this has become one of the features that distinguishes One Stonor Sales Gallery from other galleries,” Metrics Global says.
Throughout the space, the interior takes on a consistent grayscale scheme, accentuated with metallic copper tones. Complemented by corporate-styled upholstery seating, and fabric-padded cladding, the design theme demonstrates the mellow side of living in a metropolitan setting.
Intercontinental Inspiration
For the 1-bedroom show home, Metrics Global infused the space with a predominant oriental concept complemented by nuances of Western details, resulting in a hybrid interior SOHO style that they coined “intercontinental”.
“Oriental design has been the benchmark of class for many high-end hotels over the years. While many hotel designs still practice it today, we made a challenging attempt to redefine the oriental interior design. This time, the style is exercised into a residential interior, ” say the designers. “After a thorough brainstorm, our team came up with a concept that combines the conventionally heavy oriental designs with minimal Western elements. It’s a hybrid interior style that we call “intercontinental. This theme acts as an encompassment of the multicultural society today.”
With the intercontinental style as the central theme, the living spaces of the show home adorn a daring concoction of various interior elements that radiate the wealth of the East and the West.
“When the minimalist features were introduced, the fusion style eliminated the excessive use of ornamentation present in oriental design – instead, we replaced them with slim, clean lines,” the designers remark. “Nonetheless, the essential features of oriental design were still retained, such as the rounded corners, dark earthy colour scheme, and bold-veined marble.”
Towards the dining room, the area looks out into the study and living area, promoting interaction between the spaces, as well as allowing daylight to penetrate throughout the space.
“The dining table top features a hand painted “marbling” artwork. We placed it below a clear glass top to suggest to achieve a unique marble-like appearance,” the designers commented on the decorative features. “We lined the walls with rounded timber frames and replaced some of the frames with equally sized shelves for owners to display their collections and artifacts. At the study area, the furniture pieces are a product of the hybrid style, rich in oriental features, but refined using sleek lines.”
Carrying the main character of the intercontinental theme, the bedroom has a spacious transitional area that connects the kitchen, dining, study, and living area. Here, a wide balcony is accessible from both bedroom and living area, bringing in fresh air and views of the city.
Chic and Contemporary
For the 2-bedroom unit, Metrics Global created a space that’s ideal for newlyweds and young families. A metropolitan atmosphere is incorporated to give it a fashionable and classy appeal.
“The space is created using an almost monochromatic palette, complemented by selected timber tones and metallic colours,” explain the designers. “The style is also characterized by contrasting materials, bold variations of forms, elegant lines perfected with well-thought proportions.”
At the living area, two contrasting materials were used together – the honed Armani marble and the walnut timber each offers its own neutral tones that harmoniously complement the other. In the kitchen, a long dining table integrates into the kitchen island, generating ample kitchen work space.
“The bespoke pendant light above is designed to accentuate the shape of the table, with an opening that accommodates the island hood,” the designers say. “The display cum storage shelf also provides convenience while cooking, as it acts as the spice shelf. It can also be used to store glass and dinnerware. On the opposite end, we included a see-through partition to separate the study area and create a private zone.”
Over at a small nook opposite the dining space, a study area offers a cosy space for casual reading or work. A corridor next to it leads to the bedroom and the master suite which is accompanied by an en suite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. Anchoring the master suite is an eye-catching bed headboard set in a large frame. Stunning white feather-like tiles are arranged in overlapping manner within it, forming an elegant curve at large. The second bedroom, on the other hand is created for a younger occupant. A bold Auburn fabric headboard with quirky design gives the space a youthful effect.
Classic Overtures
Infused with a tint of European-influenced style, the larger unit which comprises 3 bedrooms is custom-designed with expatriates and their families in mind. Featuring a modern classic look enhanced by refined linear and sleek edges, the combination of bright colours accentuated with hints of gold accents give the entire space a classy yet cosy feel.
Taking advantage of the spacious layout, the designers came up with an open plan to seamlessly connect the kitchen, dining, living and curvaceous balcony. The home welcomes guests with a warm and darker tone of grey, while leading them to a luxurious dining space where chrome gold pendant lights, the curved edges of the dark emperador top table, as well as chairs with sophisticated gold linear legs bring out an elegant classic atmosphere.
Towards the living room, there are timber moldings set in a refined and delicate gold linear manner, creating a minimal yet eye-catching on both sides of wall, as if a mirror reflection in the living area. Tastefully selected loose furniture and accessories, including the brass coffee table, gradient toned cushions, black and brass standing lamp, and Yayoi Kusama-inspired table decorations add on to the interior’s stylish yet luxurious ambient.
The Master Bedroom features a contrasting scheme, which comes complete with a labyrinth patterned bedhead, accented with gold chromed organic feature. “This bold and artfully done bedroom portrays the bedhead as if it’s a piece of art work,” the designers share. “Small sculptural organic forms with tranquil ripples mounted on the wall help to soften the entire space. We also introduced an open concept wardrobe to provide the illusion of a larger space.”
The second bedroom depicts a more youthful yet masculine style achieved through using a full height bedhead, with selected midnight blue velvet fabric padding, arranged in a Chevron layout. “The bedroom takes on a lighter palette complemented by soft textures. Similarly, sculptures and artworks were chosen to carry the character of the bedroom,” say the designers.
