In a bold and highly visible move, Donald Trump has unveiled the complete redesign of the Lincoln Bedroom’s bathroom in the White House, replacing the 1940s-era green Art Deco tiling with black and white statuary marble, gold fixtures and chandelier lighting.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump declared that the previous design was “totally inappropriate for the Lincoln era,” and insisted the new aesthetic better reflects the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. He also claimed the marble could even be original to Lincoln’s time.

Despite the gleaming finish, the renovation has sparked criticism. Heritage advocates and preservationists have raised concerns about oversight and historical accuracy, while public polling indicates a majority disapprove of the broader scale of White House modifications.
The bathroom redesign forms part of a wider campaign by Trump which includes the demolition of the East Wing to make way for a 90,000-square-foot ballroom. The controversy lies at the intersection of political symbolism, historic preservation and design identity, as the executive residence continues to reflect its occupant’s taste and agenda.
