Defying Gravity: Brazil’s Tenda Chair Suspends 120kg with One Tension Cord

by creativehomex

Brazilian brand Doimo Brasil, in collaboration with designer Tiago Curioni, has unveiled the Tenda chair, a sculptural piece inspired by architectural tensile structures. Using just a single tension cord combined with stretched fabric, the chair can suspend and support up to 120 kilograms, transforming engineering principles into a refined aesthetic experience.

The chair features a 19mm tubular steel frame and weighs only 8.5 kilograms, making it both lightweight and stable. Its elegant minimalism allows it to integrate seamlessly into living rooms, dining areas, or any home environment without overwhelming the space.

Ergonomics are carefully considered in the design. The backrest is shaped based on 3D human body data to provide effective support and long-term comfort. The double-layer polyester seat offers softness while being durable and stain-resistant. The fabric is removable for easy cleaning, and laser-seam finishing along the edges prevents irritation during use.

Tenda is available in two height options, 45cm and 65cm, accommodating both dining tables and bar counters. Beyond aesthetics and functionality, the chair also embraces sustainability, with 30% of the fabric made from recycled fibers and steel that is 100% recyclable.

The Tenda chair embodies a design philosophy of “simplicity without compromise.” It balances beauty and practicality, offering a versatile, everyday solution for modern interiors. Doimo Brasil plans to expand the collection with armchairs and high stools that follow the same structural and aesthetic language.
