Flow Meets Function: A Contemporary Duplex in Singapore Where Harmony Takes Centrestage

by creativehomex

Right Angle Studio, based in Singapore, has once again redefined residential design with The Residence, a duplex apartment that masterfully intertwines elements of the past, present, and future into a seamless spatial experience. This latest creation marks a significant milestone in the studio’s evolving design narrative, following the success of their earlier project, ‘Residence L.’

At the heart of The Residence is a commitment to minimalism and understated elegance. The apartment’s interior is meticulously crafted to create unobtrusive zones that encourage gatherings and conversations. The dining area is a testament to this philosophy, featuring a bespoke display shelf that blends seamlessly into the walls, creating a harmonious and fluid ambiance.

The open kitchen layout invites interaction, with a bar counter that subtly nods to its historical roots. The living room is equally inviting, where sliding ash wood screens elegantly partition the space while offering tantalising glimpses of the serene outdoor garden.

“A planted tree on the lower level symbolises life’s journey and growth, seamlessly inviting nature into the space. The staircase has undergone a complete transformation too, now resting atop two wooden foundation platforms with a reconfigured orientation for improved access to the upper level,'” says the design team.

Meanwhile, the upper level of The Residence is a study in light and space. An artificial skylight floods the mezzanine with a radiant glow, breathing new life into what was once a dim area. “The focal point of the upper level is a minimalist wall art sculpted by light into the shape of a parenthesis, framing the area with contemporary allure,” the design team remarks.

Moving into the bedrooms, the master room, with its preserved curved volumes from the original structure, exudes continuity and elegance. Here, the bed head extends the theme of seamless design, while human-made skylights cast a warm, luminous glow into the bathrooms. The apartment’s palette of cream and neutral tones further enhances its inviting and warm atmosphere.
