Living Heritage: Inside This Ultra Modern House in Vietnam, Cultural Details are Given a Contemporary Twist

by creativehomex

Hue, Vietnam, is a city steeped in history, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and stunning architectural landmarks, including its many ancient pagodas and imperial citadels. This historical significance not only shapes the city’s identity but also inspires contemporary design. Nestled in a tranquil corner of Hue, Limdim House designed by LIMDIMHOUSE studio, embodies this connection to the past while embracing modern aesthetics. Spanning 69 m², the project reflects the unique charm of the area, offering a space that resonates with the local heritage and invites exploration of its exquisite surroundings.

“Located in a small corner of Hue city, near the area with many historical sites as well as many famous pagodas. The investor wishes to bring a space to enjoy exquisite coffee but still retain the ancient feature,” the design team remarks.

The design features a clean, modernist facade that captures the contemporary spirit of the house while paying homage to traditional Vietnamese architecture. The structure’s form resembles boxes stacked atop one another, cleverly nodding to the layered nature of local heritage. This stacked design not only creates visual intrigue but also maximizes views and encourages natural ventilation and daylight, ensuring a refreshing atmosphere throughout the space.

Upon entering Limdim House, visitors are welcomed into a sprawling interior that expertly balances its elongated floor plan. The transitions between areas are smooth, fostering a sense of openness. The cozy living room is styled minimally, enhancing the feeling of spaciousness. Adjacent to this inviting space is the dining area, which features a dry kitchen, both adorned in warm wooden tones that exude comfort.

A double-height ceiling in the dining area amplifies the airy ambiance, creating an inviting backdrop for gatherings. The clever use of space allows for a delightful flow, encouraging guests to relax and enjoy their surroundings.

At the heart of Limdim House is a stunning spiral staircase, meticulously crafted from concrete. This central focal point not only provides access to the upper levels but also serves as an architectural statement. A skylight adorned with traditional ventilation blocks sits above the staircase, casting enchanting patterns of light and shadow across the space when the sun reaches its zenith. This interplay of light adds a dynamic element to the interior, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

The rooms within Limdim House are designed with a minimalist ethos, ensuring that each space remains uncluttered and inviting. However, this simplicity is complemented by intricate details, such as thoughtfully selected tile pieces that add character and warmth. The guest suites are particularly innovative, featuring bunk beds tucked neatly into the walls to maximize floor space without sacrificing comfort.
