In the world of modern bathroom design, where trends often prioritise functionality and sleek aesthetics, Hadi Teherani offers a fresh perspective that blends personal inspiration with cultural richness. The Iranian-German architect and designer, renowned for his holistic approach to architecture, has reimagined the bathroom as a space of both ritual and retreat in his latest concept for AXOR’s ‘Distinctive’ campaign.
Hadi Teherani’s bathroom concept for AXOR’s ‘Distinctive’ campaign exemplifies a modern approach to bathroom design that merges personal inspiration with cultural depth. The Iranian-German architect and designer, known for his holistic architecture, redefines the bathroom as both a ritual space and a retreat.
Teherani envisions the bathroom as more than just a functional area. “I see the bathroom as a space where I can clean myself—in a metaphorical sense as well. Here is where I arm myself for the day. This space protects me, offers me security but at the same time doesn’t restrict me, but rather gives me a feeling of space and infinity,” he explains.
Born in Tehran and raised in Hamburg, Teherani is celebrated for his versatile work, which spans the globe and is recognised for its sustainability and sense of place. His design process is intuitive, rooted in his perceptions and emotions, which he expertly transforms into his creations.
For AXOR, Teherani has crafted a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Middle Eastern bathhouse. At the heart of his design is a cupola structure, inspired by the grand public baths of the region, positioned centrally within a home or hotel suite. The circular room is accessible from multiple sides, with symmetrical window openings and round arches creating a balanced, harmonious environment. An organically shaped bathtub takes centre stage, surrounded by a spacious shower area and a generous oval double washbasin. This layout provides luxury while evoking a sense of ritual and rejuvenation.
The material choices in this concept are as deliberate as the design itself. Light marble surfaces in the shower area contrast with a shimmering silver glass mirror mosaic that extends from the floor to the cupola, creating a consistent yet sensuous atmosphere. AXOR Citterio E faucets, overhead showers, and hand showers in Matt Black, along with AXOR Universal Softsquare Accessories, add a touch of artisanal elegance.
Teherani’s bathroom concept reflects his belief in creating spaces that offer both function and profound experience. His design seamlessly blends modernity with historical influences, crafting a retreat that connects deeply with both personal and cultural narratives. This approach represents a significant direction in bathroom design trends, where individuality, heritage, and a strong connection to the past and present are paramount.
