Samsung Unveils Smart Home Robot Ballie, Powered by Google Cloud’s Gemini AI

Samsung’s home AI companion Ballie is set to hit the market this summer.

In a bold move that signals the future of intelligent living, Samsung Electronics has teamed up with Google Cloud to introduce Ballie, a smart home AI companion robot powered by generative AI. Scheduled for consumer release this summer, Ballie is designed to engage in natural conversations and help manage your home environment, adjusting lights, greeting guests, setting personalized schedules, sending reminders, and more.

What sets Ballie apart is its integration with Gemini, Google Cloud’s multimodal AI model, combined with Samsung’s own language model. This enables Ballie to process and understand a wide range of inputs, from voice and audio, to visual data from its built-in camera, and environmental sensor readings. In real time, Ballie can adjust its responses and behaviors based on what it sees and hears.

Imagine asking, “Hey Ballie, how do I look today?” and getting actual style suggestions, like trying a bold accessory or swapping in a colorful shirt.

Ballie isn’t just about convenience, it’s designed with wellbeing in mind. If you say, “I’m feeling low energy today,” Ballie can tap into Gemini’s advanced reasoning and Google Search knowledge base to offer personalized tips. Think exercise suggestions, sleep optimization strategies, or even monitoring your sleep habits, all sourced from trusted platforms.

This new collaboration builds on last year’s successful integration of Gemini into Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series. With Ballie, Samsung and Google Cloud are expanding generative AI into a wider range of everyday devices, redefining how we live with technology.

“We’re reshaping the role of AI in the home,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business. “By combining the powerful multimodal reasoning of Gemini with Samsung’s AI innovation in Ballie, we’re entering a new era of personalized AI companions, ones that can move with you, anticipate your needs, and interact in a truly dynamic and meaningful way.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added: “With Gemini on Google Cloud, Samsung is showing how generative AI can scale, integrated directly into the products people love. This expanded partnership reflects our commitment to delivering reliable, enterprise-grade AI that creates long-term value for businesses and their users.”
