Reimagining the Christmas Tree with Design Inspiration: MilanoDesignXmas 2024

by creativehomex

Milan’s festive season has become a hub of creativity with the annual MilanoDesignXmas event, curated by TOWANT. This initiative invites architecture studios and leading brands to collaborate on reimagining the Christmas tree as a symbol of artistic innovation. This year, Le Stanze showroom (by Alea) hosted the event, partnering with 967arch, Alberto Zanetta Design, and Plan Studio to craft three distinct trees.

Each tree reflects a unique interpretation of holiday traditions, blending heritage with contemporary design. MilanoDesignXmas is more than an exhibition—it’s a celebration of design that transcends cultural and corporate boundaries, offering fresh perspectives on the Christmas tree. By experimenting with materials, forms, and concepts, the event showcases the limitless possibilities of design.

Le Stanze, Alea’s flagship showroom, serves as a dynamic space where various design elements come together. Its creative brief focused on combining the eclectic nature of three brands—wallpapers, ceramic lighting, and office furniture—through imaginative and cohesive designs. The smaller-scale trees embody this fusion of creativity and functionality.

967arch presented a tree that merges architecture and space, using materials like composite plates to create a unique structure. Their design incorporates a window and curtain motif, blending simplicity, elegance, and innovative craftsmanship.

Alberto Zanetta Design crafted a tree covered in “De Architettura” wallpaper, with suspended rings symbolising tree branches. Hanging from these rings are compasses, Pantone swatches, and other design tools, reflecting their approach to storytelling through design.

Plan Studio took a traditional cone shape as their starting point, evoking a Christmas tree and the German “Schultüte.” The tree, wrapped in wallpaper and bound with red rope, symbolises a break from conventional architectural forms and embraces new perspectives.
