Local Students Find Community & Building Solutions for Global Problems
This year’s 2024 Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA) marked a historic first: Ler Teck Ho (UNITAR), a differently-abled finalist, was awarded the Best Colour Choice Award for his project celebrating cultural convergence. The concept for this year’s AYDA Awards competition, ‘Converge: Glocal Design Solutions’, aims to unite local and global issues. The central goal is to bring together designers who are enthusiastic about the ways in which the world is changing and give them the opportunity to design solutions to solve the world’s problems. Universiti Malaya and Equator College students achieved Gold Awards in Architecture and Interior Design, respectively, for their groundbreaking projects addressing sustainability and social impact. From a stunning Mangrove Living Museum blending sustainability with heritage to a groundbreaking homeless resilience centre in Penang, their projects redefine design solutions. They have the chance to win an exclusive opportunity to participate in a three-week, all-expenses-paid Design Discovery Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, USA, valued at up to USD 10,000!
