Project: Hidden Bar
Location: Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

The owner intends to transform a century-old shop into a trendy hidden bar. The storefront adopts a 1960s grocery store theme, while the interior contrasts sharply, offering a sense of hidden treasures. Instead of a mainstream luxurious style, we chose rough scaffolding as the primary material, combined with an unpolished foundation, creating a bar that subverts tradition.
The space is divided into three areas, the nostalgic storefront, the central bar, and the restroom with an outdoor smoking area. Original concrete floors and aged walls preserve history, complemented by antique furniture and decor. Scaffolding forms the bar’s seating and stage, while vintage signage and lighting enhance the nostalgic atmosphere. Sustainable materials promote environmental awareness.
