The penthouse located within the Yanlord Marina Centre by Chinese studio T.K. Chu Design is an unconventional interior project that blends artistic details with contemporary aesthetics. As a tribute to its oceanic surroundings where good views of Macau in the vicinity and Hong Kong on the horizon abound, the central theme of the home spaces takes on a sea-inspired concept.
The 700sqm penthouse encompasses three sea-facing directions, while splendid city views grace the fourth direction. To leverage on these views, the designers chose to dramatise the sea vistas using a plethora of intriguing decorative elements. First of all, there are no partitions between the porch and living room. Instead, there is a transparent screen with bubbles in the shape of raindrops, which provides a broad view of all the fascinating bay views.
In the centre, the spiral staircase anchors the living room. Curved walls and porthole-shaped windows surround the staircase, which connects the two levels of the space. Towards another side, a double-height tea room has its place where the original stairs used to be. Here, the designers placed a writing desk with artworks in a waterdrop shape above it. Throughout the interior, abstract motifs depicting the sea, city and its architecture provide visual interest at every corner. Additionally, curves run through the functional spaces, bringing to mind the waves on a calm sea.
Interestingly, the apartment colour palette features an exciting mix of cold shades against a predominantly white backdrop. In the same vein, some of the furniture and decorations adopt shades of blue to keep to a calm, sea-like atmosphere. The childlike-style artworks interlace the pragmatism with an artistic atmosphere, giving the feeling of an art gallery.
