There is an ingenious interplay of classic details without compromising a contemporary outlook in this residence – thanks to Dot Works unique design approach that ensures a delicate balance between contrasting themes. The interior concept ultimately takes cue from the client’s desire to have a home with an old-style English theme complemented by nuances of Spanish revival.
“The client has expressed their love for classic English design and wanted their personal spaces to reflect this,” Jake Chow, the lead interior designer from Dot Works, shares. “It’s possible to recreate that old-style look, but balance is essential. Therefore, we need to ensure that the details we use are not too overwhelming. It’s important to keep the whole theme modern.”
To do this, Jake and his team employed wooden beams and curved arches as well as terracotta flooring to key in the theme. The natural and neutral palette brings in a softer aesthetic, while natural light streaming in from the windows ensures the space is bright and spacious. In addition, European furniture and the owners’ collection of artworks and mementoes contribute to the overall personalised feel.
The dining area, which is placed next to large windows, receives plenty of natural light to conjure a warm and welcoming ambience. Overhead, wooden beams create a rustic effect. Next to it, the kitchen features a bright white palette with classic details on the cabinetry, while arched windows with dark frames add to the thematic concept.
In the private quarters, the theme remains consistent. Through the use of wooden beams, wood flooring and curved arches, the furnishing theme of the bedrooms blends well with the rest of the home, ensuring a classic and contemporary feel all the way.
