CH Feng Shui | How to Choose the Best Apartment Unit Based on External Feng Shui Factors

by chxadmin

When you are looking for an apartment to purchase, it is important to keep in mind that there are certain Feng Shui factors that only apply to them. Although the basics of Feng Shui still apply, for example, the Main Door, The Bedroom, and The Kitchen are still the main areas of note inside the residence, it’s actually more important to determine whether the exterior has good Qi flow before looking at the interior.

What are the factors to look at before choosing a unit? The lift lobby on the property’s floor and the entrance lobby should be the first areas to examine. You should also check the unit’s location, including the proximity to the lift, and other factors surrounding the residence’s Main Door.

Look for a lift lobby that is spacious, uncluttered and brightly lit with sunlight, as an area that is too dark and gloomy would not be conducive in collecting Qi.

The Lift Lobby Area
The lift acts like a staircase in a house, in which it is the medium responsible for bringing Qi to the upper floors. Therefore, there should be a ‘Bright Hall’ in front of the lift so that the Qi can collect and dissipate into the residences on the floor. Thus, you would need to look for a lift lobby that is spacious, uncluttered, and clear. Preferably, the lobby should also be brightly lit with sunlight, as an area that is too dark and gloomy would not be conducive in collecting Qi.

This lift lobby is good for collecting Qi, as it is spacious, bright and roomy.

You would also need to check the lift’s location on the entrance level. Do not bother about the number of lifts, as it is not relevant to Classical Feng Shui. Instead, you must first ensure that the lift is not in the exact centre of the building. Being off-centre is fine, however, if it’s too close you might not be able to tell whether it’s off-centre or dead-centre, so don’t take the risk. Much like houses and staircases, it is also wise to ensure that the lift door should not be directly facing the main entrance or there would be no space for the Qi to collect before it can flow upwards.

Proximity to Lift
Another important factor is the room’s proximity to the lift. The Main Door should be near to the lift, based on the theory of ‘first come, first served’, which states that the residences closer to the lift will accumulate more Qi. However, it should not be right next to the lift, as that would mean that the Qi has no time to collect before entering the residence.

This doesn’t mean that the end units are unviable. Although they receive less Qi, they are still not negative factors as long as they don’t directly face the door of the elevator. You might get less Qi compared to the units at the front, but it is still manageable. However, if the end of the hallway doesn’t have an opening, such as a staircase, emergency exit, or window, the units there should be avoided. This is because said units would have a Stagnant Qi problem, as Qi must constantly move and circulate, which it cannot do if there’s no exit.

The corridor should also be bright and clear. Units should not directly face the fire escape, staircase, or rubbish chute.

Other Exterior Factors
The corridor itself should not be dark, stuffy, tight or narrow, as those are not conducive to Qi flow. The unit’s Main Door should not be directly facing a fire escape, staircase, or rubbish chute, as that would lead to Qi being pulled away from the unit. It also should not be facing a sharp corner. Other than that, the apartment’s style, material and design are of no concern to Feng Shui, thus, it is down to a matter of personal choice and taste.

There are other factors to consider when choosing an apartment for your usage, however, the above is a good guideline to narrow down your choices. At the very least, it is now possible for you to narrow down your choices to 3-5 buildings, upon which you could then apply the further advanced techniques of evaluating a building’s Feng Shui.
