Reshaping Spatial Aesthetics with 3D Printing: Emerging Interior Design Trends at TCT Shenzhen 2025

by creativehomex

When we see industrial sectors increasingly embrace 3D printing, we may wonder: what role does it play in everyday life? Will it truly impact our daily routines?

In fact, more and more brands and designers are using 3D printing to redefine “lifestyle aesthetics.” From bespoke furniture to sculptural art, from eco-friendly materials to sustainable design, 3D printing is quietly transforming our home environments and our sense of beauty—trends you’ll witness in person at the TCT Shenzhen exhibition from September 10–12, 2025.

As South China’s premier 3D printing event, TCT Shenzhen will showcase cutting-edge applications in interior design and architectural finishes, gathering top exhibitors in materials, equipment, and creative solutions. In this article, we’ll explore how 3D printing has become an indispensable new tool for designers and makers to unleash their creativity.

Unparalleled Design Freedom

3D printing liberates interior designers by enabling the creation of virtually any shape imaginable. From one-off prototypes to medium-volume runs, large-scale industrial printers deliver flexibility and speed. Both manufacturers and hobbyists with desktop machines can reap the benefits.

Take Germany’s Sandhelden, for example:

“We impose no minimum order quantity. On our largest 3D printer, we can produce around 150 washbasins within 24 hours.”

Choosing the right printing process requires weighing factors such as surface finish, material compatibility, and end use. Across the market, an increasing number of companies are embedding rapid prototyping into their production workflows.

Pioneers in Practice

IKEA was an early adopter of 3D printing. In 2018, the Swedish giant teamed up with designer Bea Åkerlund to launch “OMEDELBAR,” their first 3D-printed collection made with SLS technology. The debut piece? A mesh-style hand that doubles as both wall art and a decorative jewelry hook.

Another breakthrough comes from Desktop Metal’s subsidiary, Forust™, which uses binder-jetting to 3D-print wood objects. By combining wood byproducts with proprietary binders on a large-format platform, Forust produces beautiful, functional wooden pieces for architecture, interiors, and home goods—demonstrating scalable sustainability in action.

Just last month, Shared 3D Printing Workshop unveiled two brand-new pieces of furniture—a screen and a chair—printed in quartz sand via their in-house 3DP equipment. The results: seamless complex geometries, high precision, rapid turnaround, and cost-effective production.

Democratizing Creativity

For affordable, at-home fabrication, FDM remains the go-to technology: users can print in PLA, ABS, nylon, or PETG plastics. Selecting the ideal material for decorative objects hinges on factors like flexibility, strength, color, and finish. Polymers and metals predominate in 3D printing, while ceramics and organic compounds can lend spaces a warm, authentic feel—whether that’s a wooden-textured lamp or stone-like tabletop décor.

eSUN and Shaanxi Yukun Environment Art Co. recently collaborated on a 3D-printed sculpture series, blending FDM and LCD techniques. Large-scale forms and body segments used PLA-plus filament, while rigid resins handled the most detail-intensive components. By combining 3D printing with traditional sculpting, they cut production time by roughly 50% and achieved finer detail than ever before.

Sustainable Innovation

The construction sector accounts for an estimated 27% of global CO₂ emissions. 3D printing offers a greener alternative—using only the material needed, layer by layer, and minimizing waste. Leading studios like Barbara Gollackner have even converted food waste into 3D-printed tableware; in the Middle East, recycled PET bottles have been transformed into an entire exhibition pavilion.

Bold Design, a forward-thinking interiors firm, notes:

“For batch production, 3D printing lets us manufacture close to the end user without expensive molds. On-demand small runs limit storage costs, yet don’t drive up unit prices. Mastering 3D design allows us to blend aesthetics with advanced functionality in one part—delivering precise, high-quality, custom items at competitive prices, all while reducing environmental impact.”

In June 2025, China State Construction Engineering Corporation’s Eighth Bureau unveiled an innovative system for 3D printing with recycled construction waste. These new composite materials boast enhanced strength and durability, suitable for building components, decorative elements, and landscape features.

The Limitless Horizon

Additive manufacturing’s many advantages from rapid turnaround to material efficiency, have captured the imagination of individual designers and multinational corporations alike. The vast array of compatible materials means that the possibilities are endless: tiny precision parts, bespoke furniture, tabletop décor, and more. It’s only a matter of time before new studios and startups devoted entirely to 3D-printed interiors emerge.
