Upon entering this expansive space in Kuala Lumpur’s villa, one is immediately immersed in a world where subtle elegance meets timeless luxury. Designed by Vincent Tan, the designer of the DEzeno team, this residence is a masterpiece of understated opulence. From custom furniture to the selection of luxurious materials, the design showcases exceptional craftsmanship and a human-centric approach, creating a high-end yet functional boutique home—a true haven for the soul.
To the left of the entrance, a shoe cabinet neatly stores footwear. The central section of the cabinet is recessed and illuminated with warm lighting, reducing its visual weight. The floating design at the bottom provides convenient storage for frequently worn shoes, while a full-length mirror on the right side ensures a polished appearance before leaving the house.
The original staircase obstructed natural light from penetrating the space. To bring more light into the interior, the designer removed the heavy staircase and replaced it with transparent glass, inviting an abundance of natural light. This open-concept design seamlessly connects the living, dining, and kitchen areas, allowing family members to remain within sight at all times.
In the living room, the Pandora marble wall becomes a striking focal point, meticulously crafted with book-matched patterns that accentuate the luxurious stone’s translucent quality. “This unique TV wall was achieved through various cutting and arrangement techniques,” the designer explains. To cater to the homeowner’s passion for music, different audio systems were installed for watching movies and listening to music, maximizing the enjoyment of daily life.
The double-height ceiling enhances the sense of openness, while large side windows invite lush greenery and abundant natural light, allowing fresh air to flow freely throughout the space.
Turning towards the dining area, a custom bubble chandelier illuminates the space, with vibrant light cascading from gold and silver shades. “The bubble chandelier, suspended on a triangular frame, resembles floating clouds, adding a visual focus to the dining area.” Behind this, an open display cabinet showcases the homeowner’s rare collectibles.
The ceiling is adorned with warm wooden slats, adding a touch of warmth to the casual dining area. The curved island, composed of stone, wood, and stainless steel, introduces layers of texture. The curved design adds a playful contrast, complementing the linear kitchen cabinets, which house small kitchen appliances such as a coffee maker, toaster, and kettle. All practical kitchen appliances, including a fully integrated refrigerator, are seamlessly concealed behind high-gloss panels, emphasizing a cohesive aesthetic.
The U-shaped kitchen island facilitates effortless cooking, with storage cabinets in every corner providing ample space. Rounded edges soften sharp lines, ensuring safe movement throughout the area. “To address privacy concerns, we installed smart film glass windows that switch between transparency and opacity in an instant.”
Moving through the living room and into the outdoor tea area, the solid wood flooring immediately brings a sense of calm. The tea table and chairs, a combination of wood and stone, evoke a natural and poetic ambiance. With creeping vines and the soothing sound of flowing water nearby, this space is perfect for enjoying tea alone or entertaining friends, making it a truly delightful retreat.
Descending the stairs, warm tones and soft lighting signal the entrance to a private entertainment area designed for relaxation. “Outside the windows, we created a Zen-inspired garden, dispelling the initial gloominess.”
The ceiling’s warm, rustic wooden tones, arranged in a crisscross pattern, signal a shift in spatial function. Classic Western design pieces, including a vintage phonograph, tufted leather sofa, and antique Roman clock, create a classic, retro-style cigar room.
The staircase continues the wooden theme, with vertical stripes extending from the ground floor to the third floor, visually elongating the space. Rose gold accents, achieved through PVD stainless steel treatment, add a touch of luxury. “Suspended swan-shaped chandeliers, with wings poised to fly, form a W-shaped pattern, subtly incorporating the homeowner’s initial.”
On the second floor, an open display area houses the daughter’s grand piano. A wall of wine cabinets and display cases with glass panels is illuminated by linear lighting, highlighting the beauty of the displayed items.
The homeowner has chosen to honor their ancestors on the first floor. “We incorporated elements of Eastern Zen and greenery, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere.” The floating altar cabinet, crafted from a combination of pure white and wood, feels light and airy. The design echoes the wooden wall at the staircase, while the cream-colored fabric sofa and potted green plants enhance the Japanese Zen-inspired ambiance.
The music room, with cobalt blue as its base color, features matching sofas for visual consistency. Sound-absorbing panels on the walls reduce echo, ensuring that even the loudest musical expressions won’t disturb others. The entire family, who form their own band, immerse themselves in the beauty of music.
“The left side was originally a bathroom, but we demolished the partition wall and converted it into the boy’s exclusive game room.” Considering the son’s needs, a walk-in closet, display cabinet, and study desk were ingeniously integrated into the compact space. The designer used brightly colored LEGO bricks embedded in the beams and columns to add an element of fun.
In the daughter’s room, she requested a space that could function as both a walk-in closet and a social area. The designer thoughtfully created a space that serves as a dressing room, makeup area, and social hub. A glass panel behind the dressing table allows natural light to filter through, brightening the entire space.
Entering the master bedroom, a headboard crafted from warm wood and light gray upholstered fabric with dividing lines frames the bed. The warm orange leather bed frame creates a cozy sleeping environment. A rotating TV mount serves as a partition, allowing the couple to watch their favorite shows from either the bed or the sofa, enhancing their leisure time together.
A boutique-style walk-in closet unfolds. “All cabinet doors feature black glass to minimize visual clutter.” The wooden wardrobe, combined with black glass panels and linear indirect lighting, elegantly displays handbags and leather shoes. A jewelry island cabinet with a built-in fingerprint safe offers convenient storage for valuable accessories.
At the far end, the bathroom space is clad in black and white tiles and glossy wall tiles, with indirect lighting creating an understated sense of luxury. A skylight overhead floods the space with natural light, making it feel bright and spacious.
The vanity area features a countertop made of white marble, with rose gold accents on the backsplash adding a visual highlight. “We integrated two rose gold Kohler sinks and faucets, infusing the space with a touch of understated luxury.”
