Taiwan Excellence, a platform that recognises outstanding and innovative premium products from Taiwan, presented Episode Two of the Taiwan Excellence Webinar Series titled “Shaping Healthy Design with Innovation” on 5th August 2021.
Delving into the topic of a healthy home environment and how it is the key for the health-conscious and minimalist demographics in this modern age, the episode explored how home products have become smarter through integrating technology with design.
Moderated by Grace Lee from Atap.co, the episode featured three esteemed speakers:
Tommy Lim, Director, MolecQ Sdn Bhd
Founder of MolecQ group Tommy Lim has managed to build his company from zero to hero since 2004. The company initially started from van sales and slowly transitioned into sanitaryware and fittings importer and distributor. With 17 years of experience in sales, marketing, and business management, he has brought in international brands such as Grobe, Franke, Marmorin and TUMA.
Elwin Ng, Sales Manager, Keding Enterprises Sdn Bhd
Elwin Ng is an expert in sales and marketing in the interior design industry. Through his industry experience, he also strongly believes that as long as each member of the organisation delivers the most outstanding results in their posts, the company will definitely go further and achieve a better result. Every day, he follows the motto “always provide the best service to meet customers’ needs”.
IDr Ooi Boon Seong, Chief Executive Officer, Ooi Design & Associates
IDr Ooi Boon Seong has over 30 Excellence awards, including an award from the Asia-Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA) for 2006 Designer of the Year. As an active member in the interior design industry, Ooi is constantly working towards building the future of the industry and creating a positive impact. Ooi currently combines his 30+ years of experience with an enthusiastic, award-winning team to bring a fresh new dimension to interior design.
The episode also featured two award-winning products, the antibacterial Prefinished Veneered Panels from KD Panel and Flow2one Single Room Fresh Air Exchanger from TUMÄ.
Episode Highlights
As we move into a “new normal” way of life, homes are becoming a multifunctional space that meets our daily needs for work, entertainment, cooking, and relaxation. In this episode, the speakers gave an insightful view on a healthy design approach for home spaces via integrating smart and eco-friendly solutions.
Tommy Lim emphasised the importance of incorporating environment-friendly, kid-friendly, and even pet-friendly values into smart products. He shared his belief that a user’s need is not the product itself but the value brought by the product.
Continuing on this topic, Mr Ooi talked about the lack of awareness for healthy and eco-friendly products in Malaysia, which leads to lower demand for them, resulting in higher prices. However, a quick vote during the webinar revealed that while healthy and eco-friendly products are more expensive than regular ones, 92% of the webinar attendees are willing to pay for the products if they can help them create a healthier, safer environment at home.
Mr Ooi added that it is worthwhile for consumers to start purchasing products from the point of view of long-term investment. He also mentioned that the products of Taiwan Excellence Award-winning brands such as Keding and TUMÄ are always a trustable choice for the consumers because they put a lot of effort into material selection along with research and development for the products.
