18 February 2014,
A cohesive nautical concept, surprising details and immaculate spaces. These are the wow factors that anchor this very stylish interior as truly a class above the rest.
1.
1. The custom-made kitchen counter extends into the ship-inspired dining table.
2.
2. Blue with a white lining, the sofa manages to anchor the space without being overwhelming.
3.
3. An interesting array of decor items give off a whimsical touch.
When it comes to cooking up an interior design concept, often a single element or object becomes the seed of inspiration from which its entire scheme develops. For this very chic home, that seed element is probably the owner’s love for ships, sailing and the sea, as the artwork around this home hints, bringing on subtle nautical influences into its interior style.
What is obvious, however, is how stripes in blue, red and white consistently show themselves in a stark white and minimalist backdrop which hinges upon a Scandinavian-inspired interior treatment. Put simply, this type of interior style is few and far between in this region, and interior design firm SQFT has done a spectacular job pulling this together into a cohesive design that exemplifies what chic modern interiors are about.

4. The pseudo fireplace by the staircase is nonchalantly converted into a display console.
5.
5. One end of the island counter houses the stove while the other serves as a dining space.
6.
6. Blinds are a great choice for the kitchen area as trey require minimal care.
On the ground floor, the living hall, dining area and open kitchen make up the main living spaces. The canvas here is definitely all-white, which, of course, brings out the bright blue and red accents. The living room with its bright blue sofa leans more towards a nautical-coastal living style, not too much – but the framed artwork of ships gives away the key theme of this room. Moving on to the dining-kitchen area, a custom-made kitchen counter which extends into the ship-inspired dining table is the first surprise.
7.
7. The seahorse lamp and framed anchor by the bedside subtly brings out the nautical feel.
8.
8. A pair of hanging lamps save precious bedside table space.
9.
9. Hidden behind a partition is a dressing table with a unique mirror.
10.
10. Resembling three suitcases stacked atop one another, the bedside drawers provide ample storage space for odds and ends.
11.
11. Metal frames are creatively used as decor as well as a hanging place for the owners needlework.
12.
12. Simple wooden pegs and a string results in a stylish way to display samples and inspiration.
The second surprise is the pseudo fireplace at the side, converted nonchalantly into a display console. Look up and the third surprise is the perfectly tailor-made drop down timber shelving that hangs conveniently above the cooking hob. All these three amidst a clean and straightforward layout truly set forth an easy going interior that is still big on style.
Upstairs, there are bolder applications of reds, blues and stripes. The bedrooms maintain the same subtle nautical feel but with a plusher touch achieved through its high quality soft furnishing.
What’s noteworthy is definitely the collection of decorating details that the designers and owners use to accessories the space. Each one seems to tell a story of the owners’ excursions and interests while blending in beautifully with the interior.
