Sustainable Teahouse Made with Food Waste Will be Unveiled at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023
Mitsubishi Jisho Design, a Japanese architectural and engineering firm, will be showcasing their sustainable teahouse project at the upcoming 18th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale from May 20th to November 26th. The prototype, known as the Veneti-An Tea House, will be featured in the Time Space Existence exhibition at the European Cultural Centre, running concurrently with the main event in the Giardini Marinaressa Gardens. The design aims to foster a sense of “renewed connection” and utilises discarded food waste materials in its structure, emphasising environmental preservation and sustainable principles. According to the designers, the elements used in the construction of the teahouse are sourced from local coffee grounds and pasta, which are prevalent waste products in Italy. These materials are combined with Fabula Food Concrete, a newly introduced Japanese product that originated at the University of Tokyo and provides architects with a durable and water-resistant building material.
