American celebrity Gwyneth Paltrow’s home is a tranquil retreat with contemporary notes that embraces a holistic design nurturing mind, body, and soul.
Building Paltrow’s first house – a modern Spanish-style house with a courtyard in Montecito, California was a long, arduous, but exciting journey. For this project, the actress commissioned Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors who had previously designed the actress’s Tribeca loft, as well as Romanek Design Studio to create a masterpiece out of the home interior.
Taking advantage of the hot and sunny climate, the house is powered by solar energy combined with a grey-water system, a testament to Paltrow’s care for the environment. The extremely precise, thoughtful interior spaces make Paltrow’s home a serene haven.
The design scheme effortlessly combines the classical and the contemporary. With European inspiration, the home has Mediterranean-like finely crafted architectural details. These include high ceilings, arcs, and lean monolithic structures that are laid out largely on one floor. A shingled roof and stone walls also allow sunlight to bask within the space. Crafted to be a quiet retreat for her family, an outdoor pool and a sybaritic home spa designed to put the senses at ease were incorporated to the property.
Although Paltrow intended to decorate the dream home herself, the actress soon realized there were missing details only a professional could resolve. Thus, the decision to contact Brigette Romanek. Like the architecture, the interior decor highlights an exquisite blend of the traditional and contemporary. It is a perfect balance between old and new, feminine and masculine against understated colors, organic textures, and simple forms. The sandy colour palette was an essential touch to bring out the brightness, creating a soothing, peaceful atmosphere.
