Geometrical Perfection: Bold Colours and Stylish Shapes Enliven This Small Apartment in Ukraine

by creativehomex

The Suprematism Apartment in Kyiv, Ukraine, by design studio DIHOME takes inspiration from Suprematism, an early 20th-century art movement that emerged in Ukraine. Characterised by geometric abstraction and bold colour contrasts, Suprematism became the foundation for this apartment’s concept.

Spanning 42-square-metre, this apartment is designed for a young couple, who wanted a bright, functional, and aesthetically striking home that maximises every available space.

To achieve an open and airy feel, existing walls were removed, and the space was reconfigured using glass bricks, plywood, and concrete—the defining materials of this project. These elements ensure spatial zoning without compromising natural light.

“Glass blocks, plywood, and concrete are the DNA of this project,” says Sytnik, the lead designer. “The glass blocks in the living room required three rounds of grinding to achieve a flawless fit, highlighting our commitment to precision and craftsmanship.”

Against a neutral backdrop of white-painted walls and exposed concrete, the designers infused energy into the space through carefully curated furnishings and art. A deep blue velvet sofa takes centre stage in the living area, complemented by an orange coffee table and a bold burnt-orange wall panel by Ukrainian artist Tasha Oro. Meanwhile, Tthe open kitchen and dining area feature warm plywood cabinetry and red metal dining chairs, adding to the eclectic blend of textures and tones. In addition, strategic built-in storage solutions ensure clutter-free living.

The bedroom is a serene retreat that maintains the apartment’s bold aesthetic while offering a calming atmosphere. Featuring a space framed by exposed concrete walls and warm wooden shelving, the room creates a balanced contrast between industrial and cosy elements.

The bathroom continues the play of contrasts, featuring glass blocks and yellow walls paired with black-framed glass partitions, maintaining an industrial yet artistic edge. Large circular sinks with red chrome stands add an unexpected pop of colour, while carefully placed lighting enhances the modern aesthetic.
