Herman Miller has reintroduced the Eames Molded Plastic Chair (EC-127) first launched in 1970 — now updated with 99% industrial recycled plastic, expanded colorways, and both upholstered and non-upholstered options for modern use across homes, offices, libraries, and cafés.
The chair continues the Eames guiding principle: “to make the best design available to the greatest number of people.”
Originally evolving from the 1946 DCM (Dining Chair Metal), the EC-127 added upholstery and improved shock mounts to replace plywood with more durable molded plastic — a key step in the evolution of Eames seating design. The 2025 edition enhances comfort and support with a reinforced plastic frame and a subtly contoured seat-back suited to dining, reading, and conversation.

Its color and textile palette draws from The Toy, a playful building kit designed by Charles and Ray Eames, and revisits hues from the classic Eames Shell Chairs. The base is available in chrome, black, or powder-coated finishes such as Flame Red, Marigold Yellow, and Berry Blue. Upholstery options include Maharam fabrics like Hopsak by Alexander Girard, echoing the EC-127’s 1970 debut.

Eames Office director and grandson Eames Demetrios remarks:
“Charles and Ray mastered the use of molded plastic, creating designs that were light, colorful, and functional. This revival — crafted from sustainable recycled material — extends their vision into the future.”
The reissue underscores Herman Miller’s dual commitment to heritage and sustainability, redefining a 20th-century classic for the design values of the 21st.
