Salone del Mobile.Milano has launched its international tour in Jakarta, presenting around 55 pieces from the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection at Indonesia Design District PIK2 during Indonesia Design Week.

Titled SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998–2026, the exhibition ran from 18 September to 18 October 2026 at the Townhall of Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2. It marked the first stop of a new world tour by the Milan furniture fair, which is using the travelling show to build relationships beyond its April home.
A record of young talent
SaloneSatellite was founded in 1998 by Marva Griffin Wilshire, who still curates it, as a platform within Salone del Mobile.Milano for designers under the age of 35. Over almost three decades it has become one of the fair’s most closely watched sections, where prototypes are first shown to manufacturers, press and buyers.
The permanent collection gathers objects that began life on its stands. It now numbers 415 pieces, and about 55 were selected for Jakarta. Rather than a chronological retrospective, the display maps the connections between prototypes, products, companies, museums, awards and manufacturing cultures, tracing the moment an idea finds a producer.
Pieces on show included the Spun lamp that Sebastian Wrong designed for Flos, Nendo’s Chab tray-table for De Padova, the Colibrì loudspeaker by Juan Cortizo for Quibor and Nao Tamura’s Seasons silicone plates. Indonesian practice Studio Hendro Hadinata was represented by its Plank Chair, produced with EVERY Collections. Several works in the selection have received the ADI Compasso d’Oro.

The exhibition was designed by architects Ricardo Bello Dias and Hariadna Pinate, who arranged the objects on white plinths within a gallery-like enclosure.

Why Southeast Asia
Jakarta is the collection’s third international outing, following Hong Kong in 2024 and the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The fair describes Indonesia as a fast-growing market and an increasingly important hub for architecture, interiors, contract design and real estate.
The show was promoted by IDD and organised by Amantara, the hospitality and lifestyle division of developer Agung Sedayu Group, with support from the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta. Griffin Wilshire also acted as an ambassador for Italian Design Day during the Jakarta leg.

For designers and brands across the region, including Malaysia, the choice of venue signals the Milan fair’s growing interest in Southeast Asia as both a market and a source of emerging talent. Salone del Mobile.Milano will return to Milan in April 2027.
