Salone del Mobile 2026: Kartell and Philippe Starck present GIO collection balancing surface richness and formal clarity

Philippe Starck unveils GIO collection for Kartell – including embroidered armchairs, a tripod table lamp with limited‑edition embroidered shade, a precisely calibrated table, and Aurora Bella, a gravity‑defying suspended lamp.

Kartell has chosen Milan Design Week 2026 to launch GIO collection, a multi‑piece collection by long‑time collaborator Philippe Starck. The range spans seating, lighting and a table, each piece balancing rigorous form with textured or luminous surfaces.

The GIO chairs achieve a precise equilibrium between strict geometry and richly decorated upholstery. A standout variant features haute couture embroidery on a minimalist black frame: eye motifs and star patterns create an artistic tension that extends Kartell’s legacy of avant‑garde aesthetics. The chairs combine Starck’s characteristic playful provocation with functional clarity.

The GIOTA table anchors the collection with effortless precision: a slender base supports a carefully calibrated top, functioning as a quiet focal point in any interior.

The GIOLI lamp, a signature tripod table light, transforms illumination into atmospheric effect. Its reflective surfaces shift character with every viewing angle. A limited‑edition version introduces an embroidered lampshade – again developed with high‑end textile techniques – preserving Starck’s wit while adding a tactile, decorative layer.

Separately, Starck presents Aurora Bella, a lamp that appears to defy gravity. Suspended in space, it casts a soft, uniform light that turns any room into an atmosphere. Essential, refined, weightless – the piece sits outside the GIO line but shares its design philosophy.
