From Waste to Wow: GUBI Reinvents Pierre Paulin’s F300 with Recycled Plastic

by creativehomex

Danish design house GUBI has reissued the iconic F300 armchair by French futurist Pierre Paulin, now remastered in sustainable materials. Originally a 1960s fiberglass-and-urethane masterpiece sought only on the vintage market, the F300 returns with modern updates overseen by Paulin’s son, Benjamin Paulin.

The classic aerodynamic shell remains, but its substance has transformed. GUBI replaces the original composites with HiREK® engineering polymer, crafted entirely from industrial plastic waste. Offered in crisp white or pale mint, the shell supports a collection of premium aniline‑dyed leather cushions (from sunflower yellow to deep crimson) that patina beautifully over time.

Paired with the relaunched T877 side table, also molded in HiREK®, this duo epitomizes Paulin’s vision: “a seamless union of sculptural grace, refined elegance, and ergonomic comfort,” as Benjamin Paulin describes. The F300 measures 69×80×61 cm (seat height 38 cm, weight 14 kg), while the T877 table lightweight and versatile, debuts in three new tones: frost purple, honey gold, and mocha.

“F300 isn’t just an object, it’s a study in comfort, form, and sustainability,” adds Paulin.

Both pieces launched globally in mid‑May at GUBI boutiques and select retailers: the F300 armchair at US $2,299, and the T877 side table at US $399. This revival not only honors a design classic but also showcases how contemporary eco‑innovation can enrich heritage craftsmanship.
