SPARK Architects (SPARK), an international design studio with proven expertise in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and interior design recently unveiled two of its latest architectural projects in Malaysia at the inaugural Cityscape conference and exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre: Arte S and Arte MK.

To be featured prominently at the joint SPARK and the developer Nusmetro’s stand, SPARK will showcase the two developments, with Arte S, poised to be the tallest residential tower with 400 units in Penang, located at the base of Bukit Gambir, and the Arte MK, a three tower, 1100 units development that’s currently in planning stage situated at the edge of Mont Kiara and the heart of KL Dutamas.

SPARK’s mission is to bring into the market a more thoughtful architecture that makes the best use of urban space that supports a convivial, socially sustainable and comfortable, stylish life. Founding director of SPARK, Stephen Pimbley said that Malaysia offers an exciting landscape for both developers and architects where innovative architecture is being realised by visionary developers like Nusmetro, who are working hard to differentiate their products to attract buyers, beyond the normal levers of location, tenure and size. “With pending GST and other rising living costs putting off buyers from investing in property, savvy developers are focusing more on qualitative architectural designs as a competitive edge to appeal to an increasingly sophisticated and discerning real estate market.  This is great news for companies like SPARK that with an award winning track record of architectural distinction on the regional and the international stage, SPARK is able to lift and contribute to the increasingly high standard of the built environment to compete with the rest of the world.”  Mr. Pimbley said.

ARTE MK
Arte MK comprises three residential towers rising harmoniously from a sculpted commercial podium. Located on the edge of Mont Kiara at the heart of KL Dutamas Metropolis the project delivers 1100 homes in KL’s most architecturally striking residential towers. Arte MK draws inspiration from the dynamic flow of the city whilst providing unique sculpted spaces within. The three towers rise to a maximum height of 170m creating a composition that is visually distinct and dynamic in all directions. SPARK’s design for Arte MK draws upon this unique physical and cultural landscape in order to sculpt the three towers which rise from a verdant hillside. The tapered tower massing is shaded from the tropical sun by a dynamic louvre skin creating a harmonious composition which stands out amongst a suburb of rectilinear towers.

ARTE S
The two residential towers sit at the base Bukit Gambir, a lush tropical mountain located at the heart of Penang Island in the Indian Ocean off the Western coast of Malaysia. The geometry and composition of the towers is inspired the dramatic surrounding land and seascapes mediating between the steeply rising verdant mountain and the flowing currents of the Malacca Straits. The two towers are generated by the extrusion of a simple and efficient elliptical floorplate whilst the facade is brought to life with the addition of a waveform fin at each level. The varying profile of the ledges is inspired by the ocean currents of the Malacca straits which separate the island from peninsula Malaysia.
