Redefining Storage: JWL Introduces First-Ever Bidirectionally Stackable Armchair with THA Series

by creativehomex

Japanese contract furniture specialist JWL has unveiled the THA Chair Series, the world’s first four-legged armchair capable of both frontward and rearward stacking. Led by designer Jun Nakano and two years in development, the THA Series earned a coveted iF DESIGN AWARD 2025, heralding a breakthrough in space-saving seating.

Traditional stackable chairs require significant vertical lift and clearance. In contrast, THA’s innovative geometry enables users to stack with a mere upward tilt, whether nesting from front to back or vice versa. This bidirectional capability reduces storage footprint by up to 30% and cuts the physical effort required, ideal for constrained environments such as conference rooms, cafés, and multipurpose halls.

Despite its compact stackability, THA retains the comfort and support expected of an armchair. High-density foam cushions, integrated lumbar support, and gently sloped armrests ensure extended seating comfort. The powder-coated steel frame and reinforced thermoplastic seat shell promise durability for heavy-use commercial settings.

Scheduled for simultaneous worldwide release in 2025, the THA Chair Series targets five continents with a streamlined distribution plan. Industry insiders anticipate that its unique combination of ergonomic refinement and unprecedented space efficiency will set a new standard for contract furniture, delivering a clear competitive advantage.

“THA’s clever structural design maintains the comfort of an armchair while elevating storage efficiency to an entirely new level,”
remarked the iF jury. “This is a landmark achievement in office and hospitality seating.”
