French fashion house Longchamp, renowned for its iconic Le Pliage foldable bags, has made its debut in the furniture world in collaboration with designer Pierre Renart. Together they unveiled two new pieces, the Wave bench and the Ruban chair, blending craftsmanship, material innovation, and elegant design.
The Wave bench is formed from a single seven-meter wooden ribbon that curves and folds into a fluid, wave-like structure. The outer surface showcases walnut wood, while the inner structure uses wood with a more uniform texture to ensure long-term stability while maintaining the natural warmth and beauty of the walnut.
The Ruban chair is inspired by the flowing form of a ribbon and comes in eight vibrant leather finishes. Its horseshoe-shaped base demonstrates high-level woodworking skill, delivering both elegance and structural integrity.
Both pieces combine American walnut wood with supple calf leather, translating the precision and refinement of Longchamp’s fashion craftsmanship into furniture. The collaboration uses laminated bending techniques and meticulous handwork with leather to create visually light and fluid forms, pushing the boundaries of traditional furniture making.
This project represents Longchamp’s first venture into furniture design and retail, and marks Pierre Renart’s first practical exploration of combining wood and leather in furniture. The Wave bench and Ruban chair illustrate how fashion and furniture can intersect, creating pieces that are both sculptural and functional, and offering a new vision for luxury lifestyle design.
