AT ITS CORE, this link villa in The Valley, Ampang is minimalist, but Sodeco took it to another level by incorporating different elements while keeping it simple. Simplicity is never an easy feat, but Sodeco manages to pull it off ingeniously by using the most obvious elements: space and light.
Starting from the living room, the entire composition begins with a clutter-free layout – only minimal objects are allowed. Then, the designers put up a light timber feature wall to encapsulate the space in a lightweight ambience, before finishing it off with light and dark sheers to control the amount of light that penetrates the space.
Proceeding towards the dining area and all the way to the kitchen, Sodeco gradually turned up the volume on the interplay of textures and decorative elements. A circular dining table landmarks the space while on the further side of the room, a decorative feature wall entices us to go deeper to the next space – the kitchen. In the kitchen, cabinets don the same lightweight wood material as what we have seen in the living area, but this time, Sodeco introduced a statement-making material – white glossy surfaces that interact with pockets of that accommodate the built-in appliances.
Within the bedrooms however, Sodeco has decided to break away from the lightweight concept. In fact, each bedroom features a different palette. The master bedroom takes on generous floor space that houses the master bed as well as the glass-encased ensuite bedroom. Stronger colours are used like deep purples, and it is a surprise to see more built-in cabinets within the rooms. The upstairs study seems to take on a bit of both – clean and simple yet adorned with built-in wall storage, successfully serving as a breathing space between the contrasting styles.
