Formica Asia will soon be inaugurating the strategic relocation of its headquarters in Singapore. This month, the Asian HQ that was previously located in Shanghai has been relocated to 38 Armenian Street in Singapore. The new property features an office and a phygital showroom allowing closer and more efficient customer experiences. The CEO of Formica Asia, Jerome Michel, states that they are ready to embark on a journey with its soon-to-be implemented market expansion plan and strategic partnerships to strengthen customer engagements in Asia, especially the Southeast Asia market with Singapore as its pivot. HKDC Released Their BODW 2021 Trend Report Focusing on Global Design Reset
The Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) in partnership with CatchOn, A Finn Partners Company has released a trend report titled “Global Design Reset”, which served as a primer to the the Business of Design Week 2021. The report explored eight movements that define our lived experiences, each of which have witnessed disruption in ways big and small: Brand Rejuvenation, Connected Health & Wellbeing, Creative Mindset and Innovation Leadership, Culture & The City, Designing an Intelligent Future, Hospitality with Purpose, New Urban Models, and Phygital Reality. “As global business leaders envisage a game-changing plan to chart a purposeful path forward, societies must find the talent, confidence, and innovation needed to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world and execute big ideas across various fields, so that we can rewrite, redesign, and rebuild the future we desire,” the report stated. “Rethink, Refresh, and Reset with leading entrepreneurs, creatives, and designers from different sectors who will collectively shine a light on how we can thrive amid crisis, co-create a sustainable future, and make a meaningful impact through human-centred design and technology.”

TIMB3R Design Incubator Programme Returns To Give Local Woodwork Designers Global Recognition
The TIMB3R Design Incubator Programme (DIP) has officially kicked off its second instalment on 24th November 2021, bringing together 15 local designer-manufacturer pairings to conceptualise, design, and create high-value Malaysian-made timber and furniture which will be showcased in the Export Furniture Exhibition (EFE) in 2023. Jointly organised by the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC) and Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), the launch of TIMB3R DIP 2.0 was officiated by the Minister of Plantation, Industries and Commodities, YB Datuk Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin. Also on the agenda of the day was the Hackathon, a matching process that connected each designer with a manufacturer that best complemented their design concept. A total of 15 designer manufacturer pairings were established. One product—ranging from furniture, building materials, lightings and decorative items—will be delivered by each pair by the end of the six-month process.

Business of Design Week 2021 Culminates with Ideas for Resetting Our Post-Pandemic Future
The Business of Design Week (BODW) 2021, organised by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), concluded its 19th edition on 4 December. The week-long Summit featured a line-up of 80+ prominent leaders and innovators, joining from all over the world, who all underlined the urgency and significance of the ‘Global Design Reset’ facing today’s world. From now onwards, over 30 sessions from BODW 2021 are available to watch on-demand on BODW 2021 website, the interactive design knowledge platform launched this year by HKDC. For year-round access to a wealth of engaging evergreen information, such as live broadcasting of flagship programmes BODW and KODW, interviews with design icons and emerging talent, and other exciting content in various formats, the public can register for free to join bodw+ at bodw.com, envisioned to become Asia’s leading online design portal. In addition, a one-hour ViuTV Chinese Highlights programme focused on BODW 2021 will air on 19 December (Sunday).
