Located in Ratchada, Bangkok, Thailand, The Privatier Ratchada 32 is a luxurious residence designed by Jules, the founder and design director of the renowned Thai design firm, Double V Space.
Spanning over 5,500 square feet (154 square meters) across three and a half floors, this residence exudes an exquisite blend of metropolitan elegance and opulence, creating a captivating and grand ambiance.
“We employed various unique and natural materials to create a sense of luxury and spaciousness in the living spaces, which was the core focus of our design approach,” the designer explained.
The luxurious atmosphere is reflected in the careful selection of materials, including marble, wood, crystal, glass, and stainless steel. The combination of different textures and materials complement each other, and every detail exudes a hidden sense of luxury.
Upon entering the living room, the main wall is adorned with a combination of dark wood and black marble, creating a striking visual display. Open display cabinets are introduced on both sides, providing a convenient space to showcase home decor items, complemented by a linear warm orange lighting, collectively infusing an atmosphere of luxury and elegance.
The expansive floor-to-ceiling windows invite abundant natural light, illuminating the entire space with a bright and airy ambiance. Through these windows, the sight of flowing water and lush greenery is captured, creating a soothing and picturesque backdrop for daily relaxation.
As you step forward, you’re greeted by the impressive 5.5-meter high ceiling, and your gaze is drawn upwards to a dazzling crystal chandelier. The crystal rings hang vertically, creating a radiant spectacle within the space.
To add a touch of elegance and style, the table is complemented with sleek orange leather accents on the wooden dining chairs, creating a striking contrast and a truly sophisticated ambiance.
“We decided to remove the storage cabinet above the kitchen, which was originally against the wall, and replaced it with a window to showcase the outdoor greenery and bring the beautiful scenery indoors,” says the designer.
The kitchen is adjacent to the dining area, creating a seamless flow for communication and visual connection within the communal space. The kitchen island, adorned with a gray quartz countertop, features a built-in induction cooktop with a concealed retractable range hood, eliminating the bulky appearance of traditional range hoods.
“Even when family members are cooking, watching TV, or dining, the open layout encourages them to gather together more often, and the kitchen island serves as the central hub of the entire home.”
The dark wood-paneled wall unfolds, revealing a corner extension in the shape of a small bar counter. Combined with open display cabinets and a built-in wine cellar underneath, it offers a convenient spot to access a selection of fine wines and enjoy a few drinks with friends.
“On weekends, inviting friends and family over for gatherings becomes effortless, as you can easily prepare and serve drinks without having to go to the kitchen. Hosting parties at home has become a trendy lifestyle choice in Thailand,” says the designer.
The well-stocked bar area creates the perfect setting for intimate and relaxed evenings, where you can raise a toast and engage in lively conversations with loved ones.
Following the elevator to the first floor, the designer has transformed this space into an entertainment area. With ample room to relax and enjoy games with friends, the area is designed to foster a sense of leisure and fun.
Along the walls, iron fixtures combined with glass shelves provide an expanded display area for showcasing a collection of figurines or decorative art pieces. The inviting atmosphere invites guests to immerse themselves in the world of gaming, creating memorable experiences and fostering camaraderie among friends.
Warm and rich wooden tones adorn the main wall, featuring irregular dividing lines that create a sense of playful and dynamic lines. Thoughtfully placed lighting fixtures, capable of radiating light in four directions, not only provide illumination but also enhance the cozy ambiance reminiscent of a club setting.
When asked about their favorite space, the designer enthusiastically expresses：
“Having tabletop game boards and a spacious sofa that can accommodate up to 10 people signifies the potential for more gatherings, bringing us closer together. For me, that’s already enough to make it incredibly enjoyable.”
The combination of the distinctive design elements, inviting lighting, and comfortable seating creates an inviting and engaging environment for memorable gaming sessions and social gatherings.
Upon entering the master bedroom on the second floor, a serene ambiance is crafted through the combination of warm wooden elements and minimalist gray and white tones. Stepping onto the plush short-pile gray carpet, a sense of refined elegance reminiscent of a boutique hotel is revealed.
Positioned within the bathroom is a freestanding bathtub, offering a luxurious retreat for indulging in soothing baths. As sunlight filters through the slats of the wooden blinds, it creates a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow, elevating the experience of relaxation and unwinding. The combination of elegant design elements and the serene ambiance of the bathroom ensures that every moment spent here becomes a blissful escape from the outside world.
Moving ahead, the warm gray and wooden tones continue, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Soft sunlight filters through the sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow into the room. Positioned by the window is a functional work desk, serving as a dedicated space for office work or reading. Behind it, an open display cabinet showcases decorative items, complemented by a warm ambient lighting, forming a captivating focal point on the main wall.
There is a U-shaped walk-in closet with frosted glass doors, allowing for easy visibility and organization of clothing and accessories. A dressing mirror is placed in the corner, providing a convenient spot for checking outfits and grooming.
“In fact, this floor comprises two rooms, but I recommend combining and expanding them into a spacious suite with a dedicated workspace. By connecting the sleeping area, work area, and walk-in closet, the overall functionality of the space is enhanced, offering a more comprehensive living experience.”
Ascending the stairs to the third floor, you enter a space where a shrine awaits, incorporating the Thai tradition of reverence and worship. Instead of a traditional altar, a suspended shelving unit is used, creating an illusion of the deities floating in mid-air.
Several divine statues are placed on the shelves, exuding an ethereal presence. Vertical lights adorn both sides of the shrine, replacing the traditional red votive lights, while below, light gray kneeling chairs add a touch of simplicity and solemnity to the modern aesthetics of the shrine.
In a refreshing white palette complemented by creamy accents, this space is adorned with a soft and elegant color scheme. Step onto the warm and smooth herringbone parquet flooring, which adds a touch of comfort to the atmosphere.
The curved ceiling with its gentle curves exudes a subtle and delicate charm, perfectly contrasting with the wall adorned with embedded antique bronze-plated titanium trim. Two massage beds are arranged in this space, providing a sanctuary for releasing stress and tension.
“Many clients nowadays request to have a dedicated wellness and massage room in their homes, and some even include features like a salon, a personal grooming area, or a nail spa. These additions have become increasingly popular in the post-pandemic era.”
Entering the children’s room, you’ll be greeted by a suspended bed that seems to float in mid-air. It features rounded edges and a lattice design, exuding a playful and whimsical vibe. The bed is adorned with integrated light strips that emit a warm and cozy glow. Beneath it, a plush carpet is laid out, providing a comfortable space for children to play and have fun. Along one wall, a linear desk is arranged, featuring rounded corners to ensure safety and prevent any bumps or bruises. Every detail in this room showcases a heart full of love for children.
Speaking of the most challenging aspect, the designer explains：
“We had to collaborate with professional engineers to ensure the structural integrity of the suspended bed. Through meticulous calculations of the weight distribution, the upper support columns were embedded into the ceiling to provide sufficient load-bearing capacity, allowing the bed to float in mid-air and creating a more spacious floor area below.”
Thai people have always valued filial piety and respect for their elders, and it is common for homes to have a designated room for parents to live in. The main wall behind the bed is adorned with a textured material, adding a touch of elegance.
On both sides, deep-toned wood grain grooves are incorporated, complemented by matching bedside cabinets, creating a symmetrical aesthetic. The soft leather upholstery on the bedhead exudes a sense of tranquility, providing a comforting environment for a restful sleep.
The wardrobe extends along the wall, providing ample storage space for clothing by utilizing floor-to-ceiling cabinets. The inclusion of glass doors enhances the sense of transparency, accentuated by warm yellow lighting, reminiscent of a high-end boutique. The bathroom is designed without doors, ensuring easy and unobstructed access.
“In this space, every small detail serves a purpose. Although it resembles a walk-in closet, it actually serves as a hallway leading to the bedroom.”
