Reinterpreted into a modern sidewalk cafe, Melur & Thyme offers a sense of nostalgic charm presented in an arty ambience.

Cosy and sophisticated, but with an inviting air of elegance, Melur & Thyme at KLCC has a lot to offer from an interior design point of view. Designed by Quirk & Associates, the restaurant is conceived to bring East and West, old and new together. What resulted is an eclectic and arty interior setting, exuding a nostalgic charm that is reinterpreted as a whimsical modern sidewalk cafe.
Even the name of the restaurant is brimming with inspiration to complement the eclectic concept. “Melur is a flower commonly found in the tropical areas of Malaysia,” the owners of Melur & Thyme say. “’Melur’ represents our eastern Malay tapas, while ‘Thyme’, an English herb, represents our western tapas.”

The interior, as a whole, takes on a simplistic approach. There are a few interesting pieces to round up in this restaurant – the white ceramic bevel edged subway tiles, metal lattice work, terrazzo pavers and aluminium pendant lights. Offering a localised touch, metal lattice work displays quality craftsmanship and makes a dramatic impression in the surrounding of dark furnishings. The design is kept simple allowing details like the decorative metal lattice, exposed ductwork and aluminium pendant lights to take the limelight.

“Inspired from the hand sketches and scribbles of a dreamy traveller, you are now invited to sit next to hand-drawn installations in a cosy setting where friends gather and share fond memories over good food from a selection of tapas dishes, to festive family gatherings with grandma’s Hokkien mee,” the owners add.
