Digital Nature: LAVA Director and Architect Chris Bosse Speaks at CIFF Guangzhou 2026

by creativehomex

Chris Bosse, director of LAVA Asia Pacific, leads the practice’s studios across Sydney, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Based in Sydney, he has established himself as a pioneering architect and design researcher whose work explores the convergence of digital innovation, natural systems and experimental form-finding. At the China International Furniture Fair 2026 (CIFF)CIFF 2026 International Forum, curated by Iko iN, Founder of iN Design Lab Malaysia, Chris Bosse takes the stage as a keynote speaker, presenting LAVA’s forward-looking vision where computational design, sustainability and experimental form converge to shape the next generation of architecture.

Bosse’s approach is driven by computational explorations of organic structures and their spatial logic, translating patterns found in nature into fluid, free-form geometries. Working hands-on across scales — from small prototypes to large urban visions — he consistently challenges conventional composition and advances new possibilities in digital design. His work seeks to redefine the relationship between technology and environment, emphasising architecture as a dynamic interface between physical and digital realms.

During his tenure as Associate Architect at PTW Architects in Sydney, Bosse played a pivotal role in the design of the Beijing National Aquatics Centre for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, widely known as the Water Cube. The project received the Atmosphere Award at the 9th Venice Architecture Biennale and the AIA Jørn Utzon Award for International Architecture. In 2008, he was honoured with an Emerging Architect Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects, followed by a 40 Under 40 Award in 2012 and the Australian Design Honour at the Australian Design Centre in Sydney in 2015. Under his leadership, LAVA has delivered sustainable masterplans, eco-office and residential towers, stadiums and rapid-deployment installations worldwide. The firm won the international competition for the zero-carbon city centre of Masdar in the United Arab Emirates and received the UN-Zero Prize for innovative strategies in ‘reskinning’ an ageing icon tower. Through research-led experimentation and technological ingenuity, Chris Bosse continues to expand the architectural vocabulary of sustainable and computational design across the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
