In a first-ever alliance, German luxury luggage maker RIMOWA and Swiss furniture icon Vitra have joined forces to produce a limited-edition aluminum mobile storage stool and matching toolbox series. Officially launching on June 18, 2025, the collaboration fuses RIMOWA’s signature grooved aluminum craftsmanship with Vitra’s contemporary design expertise—offering collectors a seamless blend of travel heritage and modern interiors.
Mobile Storage Stool: Luggage Meets Seating
Drawing directly from RIMOWA’s iconic grooved shell, the Mobile Storage Stool glides on the brand’s trademark Multiwheel system. Inside, Vitra’s plush fabric cushion and modular storage compartments await—transforming a travel trunk into an ergonomic seat at the flick of a latch. Add the detachable cushion, and you’ve got a fully realized lounge seat that works as effortlessly in a design studio as it does in an airport lounge.
Aluminum Toolbox: Utility as Art
Reimagining Vitra’s 2010 classic Toolbox, the new Aluminum Toolbox uses RIMOWA’s anodized aluminum panels for the outer shell, complete with reinforced corners. Inside, Vitra-designed recycled-fabric dividers organize your tools—or tech gadgets—with precision. It’s both a functional storage unit and a statement piece.
“Our collaborations demand an unwavering alignment of values and design sensibilities,” says Christian Grosen Rasmussen, Vitra’s Chief Design Officer.
“This project truly exemplifies 1+1>3 synergy.”
“Our partnership highlights the essence of design innovation—melding our material and craftsmanship expertise,” adds Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert, RIMOWA’s CEO.
Manufacture will take place simultaneously at RIMOWA’s Cologne factory and Vitra’s Weil am Rhein campus. On launch day, Vitra Campus will host a dedicated exhibition showcasing the design dialogue between these two powerhouses—underscoring a shared vision of functional artistry and contemporary living.
