BRIGHT AND BOLD COLOURS
Bright colours are especially attractive and eye-catching for children as they often associate bright hues with emotional intensity. For the inexperienced DIY home painter, a tip would be to combine bold and cool colours to achieve a balanced mood. The list below shows what different hues can do for your child:

DULUX 07

SOFT WHITES AND WARM, SUBTLE PINKS: promotes relaxing and soothing environment for babies and younger children, meanwhile, warm and inviting pinks can help create a comforting and peaceful atmosphere.

RED: gives off the impression of anger and danger but can also be linked to excitement. Because this is such a strong and stimulating colour, it is advisable to match it with furnishing in softer hues.

▲ AGE-APPROPRIATE COLOURS Soft chalky pastel colours such as pinks, blues and mint greens are ideal for creating a relaxed and soothing environment for new born babies and young toddlers. For kids aged six years and above, princess pinks, sky blues, lemon yellows and leafy greens are great choices to inspire creativity and fun, but at the same time allow them to relax at night too.

► YELLOWS: while cheerful and energetic, its cheerful properties could cause over-stimulation and make getting to sleep slightly difficult. So always pair it with more muted tones.

When used in small amounts and balanced with the right colour, these eye-catching, bright colours can help to promote concentration, while still allowing babies and young children to rest well at night.

DECORATING TIPS
To create a fun and vibrant environment, different colours can also be incorporated by adding patterns or stencils. Using a lighter colour as the base, painting horizontal or vertical stripes in bold or contrasting shades, or painting chevrons can add a touch of creativity or personalization to the room. Stencilling is also a quick and effective way to transform the room with patterns and murals. By doing so, you can add bright colours that can help stimulate creativity and imagination, whilst not overwhelming the overall atmosphere.

TYPE OF PAINT
Especially when painting children’s rooms, it is vital to choose paints that do not contain toxic chemicals and are low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions. With Dulux’s wide range of paint products, you can even opt for paints that are less harmful to the environment such as water-based paints. By using Dulux’s range of water-based paints, you can repaint your home with relief knowing that all these paints are Singapore Green Label certified to meet the stringent criteria of low VOC emissions. They are also low in odour to minimise unpleasant smells during and after painting to make it more comfortable for your precious little ones.

We can’t be there to watch over our children all the time and sometimes, they might get the urge to express their creativity on your walls! As such, parents may also choose washable paint such as the Dulux EasyClean paint for kids’ rooms so that you can easily clean and maintain the walls should the young ones decide to transform a wall into colourful canvases of their imagination.
