6 Things Before Raya

by

4th July 2014,

May this Aidilfitri be a warm and welcoming one. Let colours lead the way to create a festive palette that’s vibrant and cheerful. Here’s how to do it the fashionable way.

CURTAINS PLACE

1. CURTAIN UP!
Hari Raya will never be complete without new curtains, right? Take your time to look for your favourite fabric of the new curtains possibly a month or two before Aidilfitri. Have your curtains fixed from floor to ceiling to achieve a grander and higher space. For a touch of timelessness, choose luxurious one-tone fabric in majestic hues of silver, bronze, purple and gray. Banded drapery or split curtain panels can make a difference in styling a notch higher.

2. ACCESSORISE
When it comes to accessorising and decorating, every empty nook or bare surfaces will be filled with all sorts of décor pieces, photo frames, vases and artificial flowers bought specifically for Hari Raya. Instead of accumulating new things every year, move things around the house. And what is the floral vase doing in the bedroom? Display it in the living for a change and use those vintage plates in the kitchen cabinet as wall displays. You will be surprised on how little adjustments make a huge difference in the home.

3. COMFORT ZONE
Comfort plays an important role both for your own pleasure as well as for visiting guests. Inject softness and plush by piling pillows of varied textures and colours or simply hurl a woolly throw on your sofa. After Hari Raya, if you do not want to see too many things lying around bizarrely, you can remove the pillowcases and wrap the pillows with a plastic wrapper and keep in a cool and dry place.

4. GLORIOUS PLATES
Those beautiful plates should not be lying pointlessly in the display cabinet. Spread them out on the dining table. Solid colours and bold motifs that are both cheerful and vibrant make the dining area so much more welcoming and inviting during Hari Raya. Bon appetit!

5. TABLE SETTING
When the dining table becomes a place where bonds are tightened and friendships bred, it is fairly important to ensure that everything served look magnified and fantastic. Fresh flowers, colourful tableware, candle lights and place-mats are some of the many must-have elements when dining during the festivities. While complementing the appetising array of dishes, it would be nice to be praised for all the hardwork decorating, right?

6. DEMARCATE
Bare floors should not be left empty. Besides creating glare (especially when your tiles are glossy), uncovered floors lack warmth and a touch of softness required for a welcoming space. Use carpets or rugs to inject a personal style while demarcating the different spaces in a common area. Moreover, carpets act as additional seating area in your living area. Simply throw several soft pillows for the extra comfort on your carpet.
