30th March 2015,

Curtainsplace presents a plethora of the hottest trends for curtains and windows that can effectively uplift modern spaces.

Curtains also take on natural palettes in 2015. This year, we see European designers employing the use of hand-painted designs that are screen-printed onto natural fabrics to give rooms an artistic touch that mimics a Matisse or Cezanne painting bursting with beautiful colours.
The length of curtains remains long, sweeping to the floor or billowing out from an open window from rods and finials that feature modern romantic florals carved on them. Old is new again with a light, antique veneer effect, giving them a refurbished look. Floor-to-ceiling windows that are set back into the wall can become cozy little nooks with a layered treatment comprising first, a sheer and then a more dramatic outer drapery that sets off a vintage chair or loveseat.

The design industry in the past focused on more formal, heavier window treatments that were clear focal points in a room. But as floor plans are opening up and rooms tend to flow more into one another, the natural shift is for lighter fabrics that are layered creatively in window treatments. Sustainable fabrics that still bear natural imperfections have an ethnic flair to them in 2015, and we see roman shades offering more flexible options including motorized features to slide the shades up, down or to the sides.
Texture is also hot right now, with embellishments like appliqués and even beading added to fabrics. We’ve even seen some stunning dyed fabrics used for pillows and throws.
