Simple yet chic, this condo home designed by IQI Concept Sdn Bhd maintains a bright and spacious atmosphere throughout its key spaces. Based on a minimalist Muji-inspired theme, a soothing palette of light wood tones and grey accents against a white backdrop brings out a Zen-like mood.
“For this project, the client wanted something Zen and Muji-like, a haven to retreat to after a long day of work,” the design team shares. “With no unnecessary elements and minimal decorations, this design may look simple, but it’s certainly not at all lacklustre. It is soothing for everyday living and will lift your spirit once you step into this unit.”
The Japanese-oriented concept begins in the living room, where a light grey couch anchors the room. Wood detailing on the feature wall and the windows further enhance the aesthetic. For the feature wall, vertical wood strips lead the eyes to the wood console, where covered storage niches keep the space clutter-free. At the window area, the designer created a versatile bar area that allows the owners to use it as an adhoc home office or as a place to chill out while enjoying the city views outside. “The wooden panel accentuates the ceiling creating a frame, making it the focal point to the living space and further enhances the Zen atmosphere,” explain the designers.
The dining room next to the living room complements the minimalist decor very well with a wooden table accompanied by six upholstered wood chairs. A decorative pendant lamp above complements the setting while casting a warm glow over the table. Opposite the dining table is the dry kitchen, which takes on an all-white look using white cabinetry. A grey backsplash offsets the monotony of the pristine white finishing while infusing a sense of depth into the kitchen design.
Wood continues to play an essential role in the master bedroom to keep the main concept visually consistent. A bed dressed in black and white chequered sheets is set against a long wood panel that runs horizontally across the wall. The panel serves as the bed headboard and also extends into a pair of bedside tables. To keep the space neat and tidy, the designers went for a white built-in wardrobe that comes with an attached light wood vanity top.
