As 2025 approaches, IKEA unveils the FÖSSTA collection to honor the upcoming Chinese New Year and the Year of the Snake. Featuring 26 stylish and functional items, the collection spans tableware, festive decorations, vibrant cushions, and textiles. Drawing inspiration from Chinese culture and traditions, IKEA invites people to embrace the festive spirit and infuse their homes with a rich New Year atmosphere.

This year’s FÖSSTA collection incorporates motifs of abundant pomegranates, vibrant persimmons, and nostalgic candied hawthorns, symbolizing good fortune, happiness, and prosperity. One standout piece is the LED light garland designed to resemble candied hawthorn skewers, a beloved traditional Chinese snack that evokes fond memories.

The collection caters to a wide range of needs during the festive season, from travel-friendly thermos mugs for homeward journeys to decorations and textiles that create a celebratory ambiance. Highlights include petal-shaped plates and bowls inspired by Song Dynasty ceramics, festive bedding, and versatile home accessories that combine traditional aesthetics with modern functionality.

IKEA has recognized the growing desire among modern consumers to incorporate Chinese elements, traditional aesthetics, and cultural symbols into everyday living spaces. By blending these cultural inspirations with contemporary design, IKEA aims to make tradition relevant and accessible.

Over the years, IKEA has developed Chinese New Year collections that draw from rich cultural sources, including Tang Dynasty relief art, Song Dynasty octagonal ceramics, traditional ink paintings, and auspicious symbols like persimmons and pomegranates. By integrating these elements with the Chinese zodiac, IKEA has created decorative yet practical home products. Designed and developed in China, most of these items are also produced locally and shared with a global audience, spreading the hope, prosperity, and good fortune of the Chinese New Year worldwide.

Qian Jing, the designer of the 2025 FÖSSTA collection, shared her creative vision: “I wanted these patterns to feel close to everyday life—simple yet visually impactful. The designs are inspired by familiar fruits that are abundant in markets during the New Year, each carrying beautiful meanings of joy and prosperity.”

Through the FÖSSTA collection, IKEA aims to help families in China and beyond create an affordable and festive atmosphere to celebrate togetherness. The series also seeks to integrate Chinese traditional elements seamlessly into homes worldwide, allowing people to embrace cultural heritage in their daily lives.

By bridging tradition and modernity, IKEA continues to bring the essence of the Chinese New Year to life, brightening homes and hearts across the globe.
