Cologne’s interiors scene heats up this autumn with the inaugural idd cologne, a boutique trade fair spotlighting the future of residential, hospitality, and contract interiors. Running October 26–29, 2025, the event reframes the traditional exhibition format as “a perfect espresso shot of design inspiration,” says Creative Director Dick Spierenburg.
A Curated Showcase of 30+ Premium Brands
More than 30 top-tier European names will present across soft seating, storage systems, sleep solutions, dining furniture, and outdoor living, including COR, Bretz, Schramm, interlübke, Draenert, Stern, Jori, Mobitec, and the Innovation Norway pavilion. This concentrated lineup promises to reveal the latest trends and benchmark standards in high-end interior design.
“Cologne’s golden October slot and targeted business matchmaking make idd cologne the new must-attend for premium interiors,” notes Leo Lübke, Chairman of the German Furniture Manufacturers’ Association (VDM).
Three Pillars of Future-Focused Curation
idd cologne moves beyond product displays to immersive spatial scenarios under three themes:
Durability and passion go hand in hand
Sustainability begins with a decision in favour of longevity: products distinguished by their high quality and ability to stand the test of time minimise the consumption of resources and the amount of waste generated. At the same time, we retain our desire to actively shape our surroundings – with a focus on individuality, aesthetics and a passion for design. At idd cologne, durability and passion are not mutually exclusive, rather they complement each other:
“Durability goes hand in hand with a passion for design, beauty and quality. Our industry faces the task of actively shaping interior design so that these values are reflected in holistic concepts. And that is precisely where idd cologne comes in: as a platform where visions take on a physical form that can be experienced,” explains Dick Spierenburg, Creative Director of idd cologne.
Well-being and comfort: spaces that affect how we feel
Our mood, behaviour and how we interact are influenced by our surroundings. There’s a growing awareness of the impact of design and ambience – and interiors professionals face increasing expectations. idd cologne presents concepts that go far beyond the mere functionality of rooms, showcasing spaces that foster a sense of security, strengthen social interaction and support rest and recuperation. Whether at home or away, we need welcoming spaces where we can linger, recharge our batteries and feel truly at ease.
Design begins with materials
There is growing interest in seeking out and working with materials that are natural or produced in an environmentally friendly way that doesn’t waste resources. The challenge facing the interior design industry is to develop sustainable options, make the most of opportunities and meet the highest design standards in the process. Particularly in the premium sector, it’s becoming increasingly clear that material choice is also considered a statement of values.
With major names like Bielefelder Werkstätten/JAB Anstoetz, domovari, KFF, and Sudbrock already confirmed, idd cologne is poised to establish itself as the premier October destination for concentrated, high-end design dialogue.
idd cologne Downtown: The City as Stage
Extending beyond the fairgrounds, idd cologne downtown activates over 25 showrooms, pop-ups, and design boutiques (e.g., Becker Interior, Designpost) throughout Cologne. Two parallel programmes deliver:
-
Professional Track: Industry forums and product launches exploring hospitality and commercial solutions.
-
Public Engagement: Open lectures and evening soirées that spark cross-pollination between designers and consumers.
“We’re bringing interior design into the city’s heartbeat—streets, windows, and venues—inviting an open dialogue among retailers, creatives, and the public,” explains Spierenburg.
idd cologne targets decision-makers across the high-end spectrum, furniture retailers, hospitality planners, architects, developers while also welcoming design aficionados and media. By uniting global thought leaders, the fair promises precision-driven networking and an immersive forum where tomorrow’s interior innovations come to life.
