Furniture That Moves: Seoul Studio Reimagines Seating Through Motion

by creativehomex

Seoul-based design studio p(erson)al has unveiled Soft Syntax, an experimental furniture series that rethinks how objects respond to the human body. At the heart of the project is an unexpected material: the gooseneck, traditionally used in lighting or technical equipment, now reimagined as a structural and expressive design element.

Led by designer Woojun Park, the collection explores how furniture can shift from static object to responsive interface. By combining stainless-steel frames with flexible gooseneck components, pieces such as the de-goose chair 1 subtly adapt to the user’s posture, bending and returning with movement. The result is furniture that reacts—rather than simply exists—in space.

The project reflects Park’s ongoing interest in balancing rigidity and softness, structure and motion. Through controlled flexibility, the furniture responds intuitively to human interaction, blurring the line between object and experience. The aesthetic remains minimal and restrained, aligned with contemporary Korean design language, while introducing a tactile, almost kinetic dimension.

Presented as part of the Soft Syntax exhibition, the collection reframes furniture as an active participant in daily life—one that listens, adjusts, and evolves through use. It marks a step toward a more responsive, human-centered future for design.
