Having taken place between 8-12 October 2014 recently in Taiwan, In bed With Designers Taipei gets tucked in after 5 days of excitement. In bed With Designers, curated by buyMeDesign, is a unique designer sleepover that allows designers to transform hotel rooms into carefully curated designer exhibits. For the Taiwan edition, In bed With Designers took place at the VVG lifestyle centre in Taipei. This exclusive event connected emerging designers, the media, design lovers, buyers, and industry professionals under a relaxed business environment.

This edition of buyMeDesign’s unique event was part of the Taiwan Designers’ Week, a huge design fair that introduced Taiwanese design to the world. The exhibiting designers had a chance to explore the beautiful city of Taipei, and be a part of this major design convention. Visitors, buyers, and industry professionals were able to use all of their sensorial capacity to examine, explore, and understand the designers’ personal exhibits. The intimate and cozy event allowed the public to get up close and personal with the designers while posing amazing business opportunities for
buyers, the media, and designers.

Just to name a few, Pennapa Shotlersuk for Belltastudio and Lu and Wen for Greenwood Lab bought their synthesized paper bags to the event – their products ended up being the event’s best-sellers! Lines Lab brought their MIRAMICS lamp collection and stylish sunbrella all the way from Macau. Charitable brand Alchemist showcased their upcycled ‘Can Watch’ which caused an enthusiastic stir. Local Taiwanese design studio Woo Collective displayed their beautiful tin and wood creations. And once again, Jonas Design revealed his upcycled lamps, clocks, and speakers, taken from old oriental products and packaging.

The five days also consisted of a number of events including The Very Very Good Cocktail party that offered a great chance for designers and visitors to mingle and relax in a cozy and creative atmosphere. On the second day of In bed With Designers, Tango Gao hosted an exclusive live caricature performance at the VVG lifestyle centre. Tango Gao hails from China and is a renowned cartoonist on the Chinese social media platform ‘Weibo’. Participants were transformed into adorable caricatures that Tango drew onto beautiful ceramic plates.
One of the biggest In bed With Designer events took place on the penultimate day of the designer sleepover. Florence Coirier Giraudon (founder of buyMeDesign), Carsten Lima (Area Director of Design Hotels™ Asia-Pacific), and Lines Lab all participated and shared their stories at ‘Let’s Talk Design’ for Taiwan Designers’ Week. Florence introduced In bed With Designers to Taiwan, with its unique designer concept and wide outreach. She explained the event’s aims, and targets, along with its creative sleepover idea. On the other hand, Carsten Lima for Design Hotels™ revealed international boutique hotel trends and what brought worldwide success to the Design Hotels™ group. He explained the group’s reputation as a global community for design, architecture and culture while also providing unique hospitality experiences.

Lines Lab explained the concepts and ideas that go behind making and creating new products. They exposed the multi-cultural origins of their designer brand and what goals and aims they strive for toward the making of a successful design.

There is still the chance to jump into bed with designers this year if you missed our Taiwan event. buyMeDesign will be bringing the boutique designer sleepover concept to Singapore in May 2015! Taking place at the New Majestic Hotel (a member of the Design Hotels™ group) from the 13-15 March, the designer hotel rooms will be transformed by our international talents into cozy design exhibits.
