The birth of boat wood furniture purveyor, Usang was more of a coincidence when the founders were looking for rustic furniture for their jungle retreat development project in Raub. The project’s aim was to showcase an eco-friendly development by using only recycled and quality materials. Usang’s dedicated search ultimately led them to reclaimed boat wood furniture handmade by Javanese craftsmen. Made from timbered teak wood sourced from primary forests, these old boat woods are far greater in quality than teak woods that are farmed and harvested to make mass production teak furniture, commonly found in the market today.
Usang believes that there is no better way to reclaim these traditional wooden fishing boats that are no longer sea-worthy than to give them a new lease of life as beautiful pieces of furniture. Standing by its strong belief that all boat wood furniture should be made from reclaimed boat woods only, Usang does not chop down trees, distress new wood and claims it to be recycled. Their furniture not only last for decades, but for generations. Additionally, Usang not only offers a wide array of ready collections to choose from but also customized furniture to match each individual’s personal style.
