Organic Minimalism: The Antelope House is a Nature-Inspired Escape Within the Green Pockets of Jakarta

by creativehomex

The Antelope House in Tangerang, Indonesia designed by studiokian is in every sense a serene interplay of architectural elements. Nestled within a rare green pocket of Jakarta’s dense urban fabric, this 99 sqm corner lot is transformed into a striking three-storey home that seamlessly integrates nature, light, and functionality.

The design of Antelope House takes inspiration from the mesmerising Antelope Canyon in the United States, a geological wonder shaped by erosion and flash floods. Just as the canyon’s winding pathways play with light and shadow, the house features a skylit corridor and a glass-floored divide between its two main volumes, creating a dynamic spatial experience. This interplay of openness and enclosure evokes a sense of curiosity, inviting dwellers to explore the space while maintaining a connection to both the surrounding greenery and the sky above.

studiokian has prioritised a strong relationship with nature by introducing an inner courtyard at the heart of the home. This not only provides a refreshing natural focal point but also enhances air circulation, allowing cool breezes to flow through the interiors. A passive ventilation system helps expel hot air through a discreetly integrated grille between the skylight and glass wall, ensuring comfort without relying heavily on mechanical cooling.

With a modest 200 sqm built area, every design decision is meticulously considered. studiokian embraces a minimalist aesthetic, where elements are designed to be both functional and visually understated. Storage solutions such as a concealed shoe rack within the living room wall maximise space efficiency, while a low-profile TV cabinet minimises visual clutter and preserves unobstructed views of the lush surroundings.

The material palette further enhances the home’s warmth and tranquillity. A blend of dark muted tones, rough stucco, and natural wood finishes fosters an inviting, resort-like ambience—a stark contrast to the bustling metropolis beyond.
