A Fusion of Cultures: Salone del Mobile’s Red Night Shines in Shanghai

by creativehomex

The Salone del Mobile lit Shanghai up in red once more on the evening of 7th November with its Red Night, the sector’s most keenly anticipated networking event. This event, a collaboration with ICE ITA, the Italian Trade Agency, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, FLA China, and VNU Exhibitions Asia, an organizing partner since 2016, transformed the iconic post-industrial SYSTEM landmark tower in the heart of the French Concession into an immersive stage. The gathering brought together a community of over 300 businesses, architects, interior designers, creatives, buyers, and communication professionals.

Attendees had the opportunity to experience the multifaceted language of the design world at the SYSTEM tower, which was temporarily converted into an immersive space. Lombardini22, a prominent firm in Italian architecture and engineering, showcased evocative sketches and design drawings, highlighting the 62nd edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milan. The studio, collaborating with the Salone since the previous year, has been instrumental in evolving the layouts, itineraries, and visitor experience, shaping the concept of a trade fair in constant evolution.

In addition to captivating light and music shows, guests immersed themselves in two site-specific installations designed for the Red Night. The first, crafted by the Italian-Danish GamFratesi studio, transformed a floor of the SYSTEM tower into a path of welcoming islands and seating in Networking Lounges marked by compositional rigor, an experimental approach, and poetry. The second installation, Prism, curated by VAVE Studio, used a kaleidoscopic landscape of lights, shadows, and large mirrored surfaces to create a metaphysical dialogue between generations and geographies, juxtaposing the spirit of Italian design masters Franco Albini, Achille Castiglioni, and Vico Magistretti with the vision of young Chinese talents Frank Chou, Zhang Lei, and Steven Ma.

As the anticipation builds for the return of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai, which has consistently met the expectations of both markets since its inaugural edition in 2016, the event extends an invitation to the entire Chinese community. With more than 120 leading Italian brands known for innovation, creativity, and manufacturing quality, the 62nd edition in Milan is positioned as a peerless meeting place and an opportunity for exchange and collaboration among sector professionals in both countries.
